  3. Last week we tried the Pork Shank for 2 and a side of cornbread.

The shank was very tender and moist.

    but the cornbread....OMG the cornbread.....

That cornbread is the best I have eaten in my entire life and I come from a Southern family and have eaten a LOT of cornbread.

I might be crazy assuming this, but I bet there is a can of creamed corn in the mix!! Ha ha :D Delightful!

  4. I'm hoping I am not the first to post as this place is clean, with 2 bars, a decent beer & cocktail program & good service to boot.

David and I have been there 4 times.
3 for dinner and 1 for brunch (Great Bloody Mary Bar with all the fixins)
Solid Burgers & Wings, French toast; that's about all we have tried.

    Some good beers on tap.

A nice casual escape from the Clarendon scene.

  6. I heard through the grapevine that MadFox hired a new chef. We went there for brunch on Sunday and the food was really great. My husband got the tender Pork Belly Eggs Benedict and I had a Mediteranian Omelet (peppers, olives, goat cheese). I thought both were well executed. I'm looking forward to returning for dinner to try out more items with this new chef behind the helm.

They also have a great beer on tap this week called the Molotov Hoptail! Just the right amount of citrus notes and very smooth.

  7. Enjoyed BRUNCH here the last 2 weekends in a row. I love their traditional eggs benedict with the house cured "Clarendon Bacon" I'm calling it that because we aren't in Canada and Scot's team makes it in-house with love. I've seena picture of the pig to prove it. ;)

My husband also had the fully loaded breakfast biscuit, with sausage and a cheese sauce that was just heavenly.

One of my biggest compliments has to go to the simple but always delicious side salad. I love the shallots and the dressing, so simple yet so very good.

If you haven't been for brunch there yet, you should give them a try. They open at 10:30 I believe.

  8. I love this thread and all the positive energy!

Especially in the light of a rough weekend for all of us in the biz who lost power and threw away so much food this weekend.

Posting mostly for ARL since I don't get out much.

Service with a smile from the following: and in no particlular order.

Tauqeria Poblano - Lee Harrison Center - We always sit at the bar. Most of the servers have been there 10 yrs!

    Lost Dog Cafe - Westover

Boulevard Woodgrill - one word - BILLY

    Rest. 3 (sadly closed)

    Green Pig

    Tandoori Nights - Martin

    Have a Happy 4th!

    -Wendy

p.s. if someone can recommend a priest or shamon or remover of Haints for all of our HVAC systems, I'd be open to that!

    LOL ;)

  9. Had Wiinkys on Friday with friends. Was going to walk there from Clarendon, but the storms had me (and the dogs freaked) so we ordered

take out instead. (GREAT ONLINE ORDERING WEBSITE) - http://www.wiinkys.com

My husband picked everything up and said he did couldnt see any evidence of Beer/Wine being sold there.

The thought of a burger take out usually makes me wince, but they came still very warm and non soggy.

The mushroom swiss burger I had was delish! My friend Mary had the Hawaian Hot Dog with pineapple and loved it.

    Curly Fries were good too.

We were all to chicken to try the Peanut Butter burger. Elvis flashbacks I guess!

Website said CASH only, but I hear they have an ATM onsite.

Check them out! I'll be back.

Maybe try and bring in a bottle of wine or beers when you go and actually sit there (just incase).

    -Wendy

  10. Took my husband last night for his birthday. They tried to sit us cramed down on a tiny two top on the main floor, but I kindly asked the host if there was another table and he walked us up to the kitchen area, which is just beautiful- and definitely where all the action is at. Next time I would like to try the bar seats there, so we can see all the action!

The service and staff were amazing from start to finish! I like how the tap beer list is broken up by Hoppy/Malty...etc.

I like hoppy, so I stuck with my favorite Stone IPA.

We started with the Fois Gras - oh god yes!

Than I had the Duck, which was moist & delightful, setting on a bed of pulled leg! David had the pork loin which was a tad dry.

We shared the truffle mac and cheese, which needed some salt.

Finished with the peanut butter chocolate pie and the boozy jack daniels miny milkshake.

Also had the Passion Fruit Cheesecake, which won the dessert round.

Many miles will be run over the next few days to counteract the calories earned from this wonderful meal.

  11. I can't begin to tell you how happy we are to have Scot & his team up the street from us here at screwtop. If you haven't been, please go! I love the fried pimento cheese and the Green Pig cocktail. I was hoping this would be my "go to bar" when getting off of work, however the bar is so busy I can never get a seat! :D Good for them! Great for Clarendon!

    We Dig the Pig!

  12. Thanks Don & ALL. It's really you who make us great! Thanks so much for all the support over the past couple of years. We work hard to give everyone the best experience possible. 14. Ever since the Tara Thai in Balston (with the cool fishtank featuring my friend Mr. Puffer) shut down, I have been a little lost on where to go close by for Thai.
I should probably read this forum more...then I would know all the hot spots!

From a locality standpoint:(i.e. walking Clarendon)
My husband and I have been addicted to their $1 sushi happy hour (including 1/2 price wine & beer - WOO HOO!) that goes on until 8pm every Mon-Wed.
The servers and the owner are attentive and nice and the sushi is very fresh.

The wine and beer list need some help, but the food we have had on our 3rd visit in two weeks--has been good.

    Larb Gai - A+
    Red Curry with Chicken A

p.s. - Don't be a wimp and go for Thai Hot!

    p.p.s. here's Don's Review & their website.

  15. David and I went Saturday night and had a fantastic meal with some great drinks as well.

The space, although “intimate” is well decorated, and I heard rumors of possibly expanding to the floor above for a lounge,

which is a great idea because the bar is where the action is at.

The bartender seems to have his own little pre-prohibition experiment lab going on in the space of about 3sq feet.

It’s entertaining to watch the mad scientist at work!

I had a pisco sour, which I typically have at ET here in Clarendon, on the rare occasion I go out for a grown up drink.

I thought it was well made.

David had the sazerac, which he loved.

Then we ordered a bottle of the Acorn Syrah. Mmmmm.

We started with the tender and succulent short rib ravioli (small plate) and lamb fritters (small plate) which were light as air with a delightfully tangy mustard vinaigrette and slaw.

In my experience, that’s when you can tell someone knows their way around a fryer, when the end product is not greasy and heavy.

Then we moved on to the grilled lamb and duo of beef.

Both entrees were fork tender and delicious.

For dessert we had a banana chocolate tort with a lavender ice cream.

I fell in love with that ice cream. :)

It was a wonderful meal which exceeded my expectations & we will definitely be back.

  16. D.C. Metro:

ARL - Taqueria Poblano, Lee Harrison, On the Rocks Margaritas & Steak Tacos Al Carbon - Great service!

Tandoori Nights - Chicken Vindaloo..kicked up a notch, Garlic Naan, Palak Paneer, Chana Masala

Rest. 3 - Pretty Much anything there with bacon on it! Spinach salad is one of my favorites.

    D.C. Belgas - Good Frites

Corduroy - Cauliflower Soup & Some Great Tuna

    Outside:

Austin - Garage Mahal - Indian Food Truck with a 20 person dragon bicycle that you can ride around town! BYOB.

Austin - Eastside Show Room, http://www.eastsideshowroom.com - Gastropub with kickA. cocktails

Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina(Just outside of Charleston) Red Drum - http://www.reddrumrestaurant.com/ - Everything here is amazing, good wine list too.

  17. I'd like to give a well-deserved nod to Screwtop's excellent wine club. I've been a member for maybe 6 or 8 months and have never been disappointed. Every single wine has been good, and an excellent value. For $40/month you get two wines that usually retail for significantly more, plus a nice cheese or meat selection. And the wines they pick are esoteric in a good way (nothing obvious, but nothing weird either). Anyone looking to expand their knowledge and enjoyment of wine should start here. This is a wine club run by true wine lovers. And the monthly wine pick up party is a nice touch. I finally made it to my first today and they served a nice selection of meats and cheeses, along with a tasting of 8 wines.

Thank you so very much! :)

If there is ever anything I can do to make it an even better experience, please let me know.

    -Wendy

  18. If you know anyone who needs a good cheese case, I'm willing to let mine go for cheap! It's only a year old and in pristine condition.

6ft Wide, Stainless Steel $900 obo. I really just don't have a place to store it.

True TSID-72-3 Single Duty 3 Door Refrigerated Deli Case- stainless steel

The only stipulation is that you have to pick it up on Monday Jan 3rd.

I have a minor shelving project starting that day and I have to move it out of my way.

240-372-5030 or email wendy@screwtopwinebar.com ...for more details.

    Here is a photo - http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/photo.php?fbid=474526515162&set=a.159515785162.125710.117958665162

    Thanks!

    -Wendy

p.s. Don't worry "cheese lovers" I am buying a cool new vertical one! :-)
