Just a quick update to let you know that we are opening tomorrow at 11am. Woo hoo!
Here are our hours this month.
Tuesday-Thursday: 11am - 10pm
Friday-Saturday: 11am - 11pm
Sunday: 11am - 6pm
Monday: closed
* December 24th - closing early at 6pm
* December 25th - closed for the day
* January 1 - closing early at 6pm

Hey gang,
We are opening Tuesday. Finally!
I was wondering if a few of you would mind coming Saturday for a "non-judgmental" dry run test?
I have 2 seatings, one at 7:30 and one at 8:30.
Can I get 4-5 volunteers?
All food and non-alcoholic beverages are on us.
We only ask that you tip your servers and pay for any wine or beer that you might consume.

Our menu is short and sweet, easy to execute and there is no deep frying, no fine dining.
What you’ll be doing: Preparing & cooking food for service, lunch and dinner shifts available. Weekends a must.
This COOKING position reports to the Kitchen Manager. Opportunity for advancement!!
$10 per hour and up depending on experience.

I have been telling everyone I know that 1025 N. Fillmore St. is the new Clarendon foodie row!
The chocolate rocks(heavenly sea salt caramels), the flatbread rocks(great beer selection as well)...and I hear rumors that the wine bar is going to be rockin'
I am biased though.
Hope everyone is staying dry this weekend. Tonight is going to be a PHO night for me. mmmmm

I wanted to go support my new neighbors last night at American Flatbread.
My husband and I had the Virginia Sausage Flatbread which was delicious.
I like how they slice it into small pieces, somehow it makes me feel like less of a pig.
Scott, the owner, was there greeting each table which was nice to see.
Our service overall was timely and attentive.
The only downfall is the lighting.
Maybe they had the dimmers too low, but I could barely read the menu.
I'm very happy to have them in our hood and within walking distance no less!

I'm glad to hear all the above espec. the entertainment license. I like Iota, but I'd also like to see something in Clarendon that is a little more like Jammin' Java.

Has anyone heard what's going in at the old Dan Kain trophy shop location next to the post office on Washington Blvd.?
Construction is underway.

[ Cafe/Bar Manager ]
This job will be an absolute blast, but it is hands on and requires a LOT of energy and charisma.
Below is a list of responsibilities associated with the role. Additional responsibilities may be assigned
You'll report directly to the owner, who is a very cool chick but takes zero shit.
... manage FOH operations and coordinate ordering with the kitchen manager and assistant retail manager.
... help hire, train and support all bar/waitstaff.
... create weekly reports on food spend and profit margins.
... use your brilliantly creative mind to come up with engaging ideas for the bar
... help the owner with weekly wine/beer selections with vendors
Some management experience is required but it doesn't necessarily have to be in the restaurant industry.
The pay is good, (with additional quarterly incentive bonuses) , we want you for the long haul and we don't want to burn you out,
and you'll have the opportunity to be a part of something brand new from the ground up.
[ Assistant Retail Manager ]
It ain't easy being cheesy, but it sure is a lot of fun!

-You'll report directly to the owner.
-You'll ensure screwtop retail is beautiful, bountiful, and clean.
- Assisting the owner with enforcing policies and procedures for the retail shop
- Creating schedules for retail employees
- Receiving & Stocking retail products
- Introducing and tasting all staff on new cheese, meat and gourmet selections
- Weekly Meeting with Owner
- Cutting and wrapping cheese for customers
Compensation: Negotiable Depending on experience + Quarterly Incentive Bonuses

[ Kitchen Manager/ LeadCook: ]
The menu is easy breezy and we still have room for your input as well.
Below is a list of responsibilities associated with the role. Additional responsibilities may be assigned.
- Create and maintain weekly food spend/waste budgets
- Order and receive grocery items for kitchen use
- Work with café manager to create scheduling for cooks and dishwashers
- Cook & Prep for service
- Assist with menu creation and recipes
- Keep an immaculately clean kitchen area
[Full/Time & Part/Time Cheese & Wine Experts]
This position reports to the Retail Assistant Manager.
- Must be comfortable “cutting-and-wrapping-the-cheese” for customers,
- making beautiful cheese plates for the bar and working a register
Wine Experts
- You'll recommend quality wines for customers.
- Set up the daily tasting table
- Stock wines
[ FT/Part Time Wine Servers: ]
You - Must LOVE LOVE LOVE wine and people!
We don’t really have bartenders at screwtop, everyone works both the tables and behind the bar.
Tips are shared.
This position reports to the Café/Bar Manager.
[FT/PT Cooks:] This position reports to the Kitchen Manager.
Our menu simple & easy to prepare. (no deep frying)
Must have prior cooking experience.

Best Cellars, after it had been open for awhile, ran afoul of some provision in VA's alcoholic beverage regs regarding the amount/types of food that need to be available at an establishment serving alcohol. What kind of food will be served at Screwtop?

But, Wendy, you mind want to check with the folks at Best Cellars about exactly what they needed to do in order to get back in the good graces of the authorities when they were shut down. My recollection is that although they were offering some kind of light fare with the wine by the glass they served, it wasn't sufficient.
You know John it's funny you mention Best Cellars because I too remember when they lost their bar license and had to temporarily shut down. A very sad ordeal for them at the time but you would have thought someone at their corporate headquarters would have looked into the VABC reqs.? I'm on the phone about once a week with our agent asking questions about this and that to ensure I'm meeting all their guidelines.

I wasn't sure where to post this, but assume those of you in the biz know what I am looking for.
I need a 12ft. tall fabric room divider(curtain) to hang from the ceiling of a new place we are designing.
I haven't decided on sheer or velvet, but for the life of me can't find anything online that isn't industrial.
Does anyone know the best place to find these online? or a company that you have used in the past?
