  1. I could definitely stand to pick up a few bottles myself to have handy, thanks as well Sthitch and alan!

Unfortunately can't attend today w/ my friends, but will check on Wild World's schedule for the rest of the year.

If there are any other stores/vendors, I'd love to hear about them as well. :)

  2. Hey guys...

Got a few friends that would be interested in champagne tasting [to experience & be educated on the differing varieties, including possibly sparkling wine from other regions].

Any place that does this particularly well? [incl. w/ dinner, else a local wine shops that do this]? Couldn't find any...

  3. My co-worker has been there several times [she & her husband know the owners, but they're quite honest in their food evaluations - one is in the industry].

French/American fusion, food is quite good I've been told [Chicken Pot Pie was reported to be excellent]. Personally, I've tried 2 desserts from there [my co-worker likes to spoil us at work hehe]. Both were excellent.

They have a full bar, bakery, & restaurant over 2 levels. May take my dining group there sometime.

Probably will stop by there finally & eat lunch or dinner this weekend. Will try to remember to report back with a review

  4. Had an great time last night at Corduroy.

Rissa, & the rest of the staff were excellent as usual. As for the food, I echo many of the earlier comments that the soup [Tom's soups are excellent] & cheeks in particular were great. I didn't setup to do the wine pairing, but added that option for a charge as soon as we sat down [the pairing really complemented the dishes well]. Not as in love with the desserts [they were just OK to me, rather have had the chocolate or apple desserts]

Thanks to mdt & Hill Valley for coordinating this. Glad to meet a number of the DR folks at my first dinner event with you guys. Will be attending more

  5. Hmmm...and I was all excited to have another Q place in Mont. County.

I've had Rocklands near GTown, thought their ribs were similarly dried out. Hoped that was an abberation, makes me think there might be a trend.

Been hearing good things about Smokey Hollow BBQ in N. Laurel [off 29 I think] from a co-worker. Maybe a Saturday trek is in order?:

  6. Hey guys...

Been searching for forum posts that deal with places that can accommodate for larger group events. But my question might serve better asking separately.

I'm possibly looking to do a really large event for roughly 100 - 120 people [standing, not sitdown]. I help run a weekly dining group [500+ members, ages range between 20s-40s] & we're hitting our 1 year anniversary/500+ member mark about the same time. Looking for:

    - a fixed price, catered-type event [drinks + food stations, maybe music]

    - prefer a restaurant/private room location.

    - price range can run between $50 - $100/person possibly [just depends on what we're getting for that $$$].

    - looking for a Saturday night [open to a 4 hr. window vs. all night] sometime in March or April [which Sat. is open, would like 4+ weeks for tickets to be sold + coordinate resources]

    - Metro-accessible ideally

Been calling around thus far, already contacted the Helix/Rouge/Firefly/Topaz folks, & the backroom of Asia Cafe in Rosslyn.

Are there other places that I'm just not thinking of? Just moved into the DC area about 11 months ago, so I'm not totally fluent on who's just got the space. Also, who could pull that off successfully?

  7. I just booked Tuesday that week for Grapeseed, and Friday for Centro.

With my 3 trips to DC this week, that means February will be reserved for brown rice and daily trips to the gym...

Lol. I've just finished my 4th dinner for DC RW. Now 2-3 more for Bethesda RW & I'm committed to getting back to the gym regularly this week & eating well for the next few months. :)

  8. I have reservations for Grapeseed on 1/23/06 and David Craig Bethesda on 1/26/06.  Has anyone heard anything about, or dined at, David Craig Bethesda?

Setup a reservation for 8 at Grapeseed yesterday afternoon for 1/26 [went to the place & had a real nice conversation w/ the GM Tom]. Tom used to work at Black's [when David was the head Chef there]. I asked Tom for his opinion of the place [since DC Bethesda is only 2 months old & David's reasonably still getting things situated "just right"]. He gave an excellent opinion of his very recent dining experience there [food & service].

With David's background [worked at Black's, Tabard Inn, & Pesce], I consider him a "heavyweight" in the region. I'm very looking forward to eating there that week, before he gets reviewed.

Also setup a reservation for La Miche on 1/24. Still coordinating a date for DC Bethesda. :)

  9. I just came back from eating at Corduroy tonight with a date.

My experience echoes much of what's been posted before. Great food, & great service. Started with the Buffalo Mozzerella Porcupine [Cauliflower Parmesean was unavailable by the time we eat], then moved to the Scallops [well worth the $5 upcharge from the RW pricing], & ended with the Apple Tart [simple but not overly sweet]. Everything was very very good. Service was attentive & courteous. Rissa was a treat as well.

Have to say, I've found a great restaurant to keep coming back to. Can't wait to try the rest of the menu!

I help run a weekly dining group from Meetup.com. Been inquiring with Corduroy about a group dinner there sometime in the next 2 months, gotta lock that down :)
