As a whole, I think that the cast this season definitely seems to be more style than substance.
And that spinach salad was bullshit.

Juicy! More on the review here.

Thanks to the Great Margarita Caper and subsequent hangover of the 2000 election, I learned my lesson. Let me tell you that there is nothing worse than "celebrating victory" with a margarita/tequila shots/Parliament Light combo, stumbling home to pass out, and then waking up in the morning with the worst hangover ever AND George Bush as your president.
Since then, I always make time for a proper meal, and take November 5 off of work (if possible).

No chermoula on hand so I improvised with dried coriander, cumin, cinnamon, bay leaf, fresh garlic, onion, lemon zest, S&P, whole dried chili and some fresh marjoram towards the end. Not bad, but olives really would have made it!Spoon in some chermoula. -
Leftover pseudo-moroccan braised chicken thighs in a spicy stew of root veg, chickpea, tomato, lemon, and zucchini on top of cous cous. Currently wishing that I had remembered to add the olives....

I disagree. Compared to Merkado, I think that the space has warmed up significantly. It's not as comfy as Tryst, for example, but it's light years ahead of what was there before.I've been to the Commissary three times in the past week, just to check the place out. My verdict is "meh". I don't really care for the interior -- it feels a little slapdash, and doesn't have an ounce of that comfortable coffeehouse vibe that I was hoping for. That said, the dinner that I had there was "meh" but the drinks were inexpensive which is "yeah!!". I am looking forward to trying out their breakfast one of these days. At face value, I really appreciate the fact that they offer breakfast items a la carte instead of some our other local spots that you can't get in/out of at brunch-time for less than $15/person.

That is almost as disgusting as visible butt-floss. YUCK.I think this is a phenomenal idea.True story. I have on more than several occasions used the elastic strings in my socks to remove stuck corn. I of course threw the strands out. Knitting them back into my socks would have just been disgusting.

It's definitely an acquired taste (one that I occasionally enjoy) and I was happy to discover that they serve it at Marvin on U St.Fernet Branca smells foul, tastes bitter and vile. -
Is Tuesday still "steak night"?

Exclusive organoponic farm fresh midget tranny taters, obviously. That crazy Spike! He's always got his fingers on the pulse of the hottest dining trends. Why the big secret? -
My point EXACTLY. And that is why he should consider nixing the talk like this: "I would like to be an ambassador of bringing young, hip restaurants here. I'm looking at D.C. as a blank canvas where I hope to practice my art form" if he wants people (namely me) to stop goofing on him. I don't consider myself to be an all-knowing food goddess, but I don't need some clown whose claim to fame was time spent on a reality TV show turning me on to some next-level farm fresh cheeseburger action or calling my city a "blank canvas". Spare me!All the guy is doing is opening a burger and shake joint. -
Palena isn't just about the burgers. And I digress........Palena doesn't give me tomato on my burger, I don't eat at Palena. A burger isn't just about the meat!I am looking forward to checking this place out. Is it metro accessible?

Yaaaaaawn. As retarded as that statement is on its own, it begs the question: How is a burger restaurant located on the Hill young & hip? I can think of many reasons to live and/or open a business on the Hill, but being "hip" isn't one of them.he perceives himself as an 'ambassador' who will bring 'young & hip' restaurants to DC.... -
What's the word on this place?
I've seen a lot of movement/work being done there over the last couple of weeks, but no signage yet.
-
This story is giving me Spinal Tap flashbacks.A cook attempting to smuggle frozen lobster tails out of the restaurant in his pants cannot help a restaurant's bottom line. -
She's one to talk about being able to afford something while she's on national television with a shitty $5 haircut.Lisa is delusional.Plenty of bloggers have come up with more than that she's ugly, unless she's been reading the wrong blogs. And I could probably afford to eat at her restaurant, but why would I want to?

The miniburgers at Porters are a guilty pleasure of mine. The fried onion "straws" that are served alongside make them even more shameful...and delicious!

How crowded is Old Glory on a Friday evening around Happy Hour (5:30-ish).
Friends are I are looking for a pre-movie dinner spot that will be quick, cheap, close to the theatre, and not offensive to a person in our group who is very picky.
-
I am down with any kind of cake-product, as long as it is delicious. If these $3 cupcakes - or any cupcakes, for that matter - are worth standing in line for, and the pastry shop is conveniently located in my 'hood, I would be all over it.
Also, saying that you don't like cupcakes because they are trite is like saying you don't like a band because they "sold out". Only in this case, it's more retarded because you are talking about CAKE. Cake doesn't need to be hardcore, it only needs to be delicious. Then again, I am one of "those people" who drinks $5 coffee and even I ate some mini-burgers last week, so wtf do I know?

San Chez...Cottage Bar...Gaia Cafe
There are very few things that I miss about Bland Rapids, but I find myself dreaming about Gaia Cafe brunching at least once a month. I love everything about that place. We need something like that in DC!
While we are on the subject of West Michigan, don't forget about Florentine's in Kentwood for pizza and the Corner Bar in Rockford for great bar food and brewhaha. Flo's is much better if you go early to avoid the obnoxious bar crowd, or do carryout.
Is Gibson's still around? What about Cava House?
-
SSSHHHHHH!! Keep it on the DL!I feel like this place would be getting so much more attention if not for Cork, which I feel is a bit better version of the same concept in the same neighborhood. -
Mixtec in AdMo is alright. It's definitely better than L.Plaza, ElTamarindo, Alero, etc!

What was up with that "electric smoker" that he used? It looked a lot like a device that is used for smoking something other than crabcakes, if you know what I mean.Interesting that they have Richard Blais as a contestant. -
I believe they're talking about the old Yuca space, in that little nook on 18th, just south of M. Next to where Vapiano has staked out their space. Could be wrong, though.
Correct.

I've eaten there before. It's been a while, but the pizzas used to be really good.
