  1. I am rather curious as to why he feels the need to wear a sweat band on one arm or why he always wears sunglasses backwards on his head. Some sort of grasp at cool I'd imagine.
My guess is that he is trying to be 'punk rock' and/or appeal to Generation X. Maybe he is the Food Network's answer to Anthony Bourdain?

The problem with Guy is that he's more Avril Lavigne than Minor Threat. Not cool.

His affiliation with TGIFridays makes him even less appealing.

  2. Don't know what happened in the specific case that started this thread, but the diner is not always the innocent victim.
Agreed. My post wasn't meant to "blame the victim" in this particular case.

I dine out often and can count on one hand the number of times that servers or bartenders have been rude enough to me to warrant a "calling out". It seems to happen regularly to some people so I am suggesting that perhaps the root of the problem lies with the behavior or attitude of the diner, rather than with the restaurant staff.

  3. Actually, you're completely wrong here. People do have responsibility to consider the effects of their behavior on others in public. The exact level of consideration can't be scientifically determined, but just like "the best pizza in town," it surely exists.
Consider? Yes. Play by "the rules"? I don't know. Whose rules are people supposed to play by?
  4. but there are standards of behavior in public that need to be maintained

    Really?

Once you leave the comfort of your house, it is no ones responsibility to make you feel comfortable unless you are a guest in their home.

I am not picking on you directly, plusone, as there are others in this community who seem to think that the level of a good time that they have on any given outing is directly related to the number of poseurs who have decided to crash "their party". That is a very unfortunate attitude to have.

  5. As exclusive as PX wants to be, folks should expect a certain level of douchebaggery simply based upon the number of times that the spot has received a favorable review in local and national publications. Wasn't it recently mentioned in Playboy (again)? I guess that the bottom line is that you will never be satisfied if you go out expecting others to be on the same wavelength as you. Remember that annoying people are everywhere, and most get even more annoying when they are drunk.

Also, giving someone the gasface in a bar because you don't approve of their behavior is no more classy (or less annoying) than someone acting "out of line" in "your bar" in the first place.

  6. WOW - There is some serious hateration in the thread. What exactly does one expect from a CAFE?

I think that the GT Peacock is a great spot for a sandwiches and is reasonably priced. I like the Ginger Rogers - nothing fancy - on French Baguette. The James Dean is pretty good too. If the second location has the tomato bisque, I will be eating lunch there at least once a week. :(

  7. Ahhhh, memories....

    Banana Cafe wasn't always crappy.

When moved to DC almost 10 years ago, I was living in a $400/month basement apartment which was located across the street from the super sketchy One-Stop market (which is now the 7-11). The bar upstairs at Banana was always a pleasant mix of friendly locals and queer people. It was like an oasis in my otherwise blaaaahhhh neighborhood. The dining room was always packed on the weekends. And the fajitas (which were deeeelicious) were half-priced on Mondays! This was perfect for a 20-year old temp like me who would manage to spend almost all of her "play money" at Buzz and Tracks on the weekends.

When 8th street started gentrifying a few years ago is when Banana Cafe really started to go downhill. From what I can see, their menu is more "Tex-Mex" now, and the times that I've been to the bar it has been filled with tourists. Do they still have $2 margarita happy hour?

  8. People are talking about Casey being "hot" (rather, "not unattractive") as if the way that she looks has anything to do with her ability to win the competition. What is up with that? Let's face it, folks: the hottest thing on last night's episode was Brian's shirt during the interviews in the last half of the show. That is, if you are into shirts that are Bedazzled.

Bedazzled clothing is never okay, and neither is green mashed-vegetable-stuff. His dish was completely unappetizing!
