Dickie Dee's or Jimmy Buff's?

From an earlier post on ice cream, it's apparent to me there are more than a few in the DR.com community who hail from the Northern territories. I figured I may as well start a fight over who sells the best NJ Italian-style hot dog. Those in the know, well...know that the difference is in the bread and the potatoes. Personally, I'm a fan of Dickie Dee's...but it's a constant battle with my brother who is resolutely in the Jimmy Buff's camp.

This is from Chowhound in the year 2000 when it was a really special website: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/250226 It's one of the best Chowhound threads ever. I've been to a number of these but the one that is most important is Callanhan's which was across from Palisades Park in the late 1960's. I do not know if it is there today. I was at Hiram's a couple of years ago but it wasn't the same-without a great amusement park across the street. Of course Chowhound isn't the same today, either...

Ah, but these are about just hot dogs in various forms around NJ, and not the Italian-style dogs!

Grew up on the Shore and remember seeing an Italian hot dog truck every week (even during the winters) at the same spot, but for some reason, I only ever really had an Italian hot dog once! Damned if I can remember the name of the truck, or if it just had "Italian-Style Hot Dogs!" painted on the side. There's one thing about growing up on the Shore: too much good food to shove down yer piehole.
