DonRocks Posted August 14, 2016 Author Share Posted August 14, 2016 Here is a schematic of a carbon atom, with its 12 nucleons (6 protons and 6 neutrons, which reside inside the nucleus) and 6 electrons (which orbit around the nucleus): Too simple? Out of the 118 elements in the Periodic Table, only 1 of these has atoms without any neutrons in the nucleus: hydrogen. Why? I thought you said this was too simple! Stay tuned, and I'll tell you why.
