The series features four free lectures, ticket reservations are required. The lectures start at 8pm with a 7:30pm "meet the lecturer" introduction. It looks like the lectures are also presented online. February 7, 2018 | 8:00pm Engineering Miracles for Scientific Discoveries with the James Webb Space Telescope In this lecture, John Mather, senior astrophysicist at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center and project manager for the James Webb Space Telescope, will outline how the team conceived the design, why they’re building it the way they are, and how they are testing it to make sure it will work. Tickets are free but required. April 18, 2018 | 8:00pm Is Astronomy Ready for the James Webb Space Telescope? In this lecture, Ken Sembach, director of the Space Telescope Science Institute, will highlight some of the exciting science to be conducted in JWST’s first year of observations. May 23, 2018 | 8:00pm The Hubble Space Telescope: Opening Cosmic Doors for JWST In this lecture, Jennifer Wiseman, Hubble Space Telescope senior project scientist at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, will highlight Hubble’s newest incredible observations of stars, distant galaxies, and even planets outside our solar system. June 20, 2018 | 8:00pm The Historical Quest to See to the End of the Universe… Or Its Beginning In this lecture, Robert Smith, professor of history at the University of Alberta, will examine how astronomers in the past set out to address fundamental questions about the universe.
