  1. Selected in the 2013 NBA draft with the #15 pick in the first round by the Milwaukee Bucks, Giannis Antetokounmpo is a name you may not yet know, but may be forced to learn to spell and pronounce sometime in the near future. Born in Greece to Nigerian immigrant parents, Antetokounmpo is more commonly known by his American nickname, an embarrassing term which speaks more about Americans than him (you can find it easily on the internet; I refuse to go along with it even though it's more laziness than malice). This is a very obscure statistic, and it's surely one that was made up to demonstrate what a complete season Antetokounmpo is having for Milwaukee, but this year, he could become the first player in NBA history to average (take a deep breath) ... 20 points-per-game, 9 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks. Granted, that's a tailor-made statistic, but it *does* reflect what an all-around player this man is - he is the Bucks' *playmaker*, just as often playing point guard as small forward, and he's 6'11". Pundits are saying that Antetokounmpo is "Next" - and what they mean by that is: After the James's, Currys, etc. step down, who will fill their shoes? They're saying that Giannis Antetokounmpo is going to be in that group - remember him: You'll be glad you did. "Add Buzzer-Beater to Antetokounmpo's Superstar Résumé" by Ohm Youngmisuk on espn.com
  2. I'm heading to Turkey & Greece in a few days and I'm looking for some food recs- I'll be in Istanbul & around the Selcuk area in Turkey; and Samos island in Greece. Anyone have experience there? Can you recommend some restaurants? I don't care if its 5-star or a cafe or street food, as long as its tasty. I know its last minute but any info you can give me in the next few days would be really helpful, thanks!!! Carolyn
  3. I honestly don't know the answer. Was there that much contact between the cultures? Did Rome draw from Greece? I suppose I could go on a mad Google search for the answer, but I'm hoping someone here might know the answer - I haven't a clue. This was prompted by me watching a Star Trek TNG episode (Season 7, Episode 3: "Interface"), and there was a ship in the episode called the Hera. I was pretty sure Hera was a Greek Goddess, so I Googled her, and found that her Roman counterpart was Juno (who, quite frankly, I always thought was male, but wasn't). Anyway, this got me to thinking about the whole question.
  4. I'm currently in Greece where it seems delicious fruits and vegetables will grow anywhere at random, and I've discovered my grandmother's house has a bergamot orange tree. This is a particularly welcome revelation because of all the citrus flavors out there, bergamot is probably my favorite. I'm wondering if it's possible to source either a small tree in the DC/MD/VA area, or if anyone knows where I can obtain the fruits because I'd like to use the rinds for various recipes. Thanks!
