dcs
Well, they know where it is, but they certainly don't know what it is. I have all the original Brewer and Shipley albums on LP. I still play Weeds and Tarkio at least once a month. I like their other albums, but every song on those two is a winner.
Al Dente
Is that Dick Dale? SNL did some great Larry Welk parodies.
DonRocks
Is that Dick Dale? It took a few minutes of close scrutiny, but I don't think it's the same person - your Dick, Dale, is from Boston (hence the name "codpiece"); they announced the Dick on Lawrence Welk as being from Iowa. The Hersch
I never saw this remarkable performance until about five years ago, and it really is remarkable. Never watched the Lawrence Welk show as a boy. Knowing what I know now, though, it's inconceivable to me that these performers didn't know what they were singing about. There are musical acts that trade on projecting a clueless-rube image, but I simply don't believe there are professional musicians who don't know a lot about taking drugs. Even Lawrence Welk himself would have understood what this was about. All of which makes this piece of video look incredibly cynical to me, while still being pretty funny. It really *is* funny, but you know what? In defense of Welk's characterization of this song (clueless thought it may have been), it really *is* a modern spiritual. And,all my respect to Dick Dale (the male singer here) for serving in the U.S. Navy during WWII, and also for celebrating his *55th* wedding anniversary this year.
