I went to the old location today- and Wow, just Wow!! I wanted to try a bit of bread, which meant not eating rice for my WW points to be even somewhat ok, so that I could eat pizza tonight with other people at a party.  So they made me a plate with chicken kabob, veggie kabob, chickpeas, a potato side and spinach- and were not at all judgey about it, it wasn't a problem, that was really nice.  Everything was really good!  The sides aren't cooked with dairy, so I didn't have to worry about that.  Even just the simple spinach was really flavorful.  I didn't leave any chickpeas for leftovers, they were too good. The staff was really nice. This would be a great place to go fully vegetarian this way.  But the chicken was good, I know want to try a lot of other parts of the menu. I took about half home with me as a leftover. Anyway, so good, I am glad I finally stopped by.  I had meant to before, it's just hard because that corridor has a lot of my old favorites- Lebanese Taverna Market, Caribbean Grill, Taq Poblano (my favorite location), etc, etc. But this is so good, I need to try out lots more of the menu!

    Hey Ktmoomau!

We are happy you found us! I love the in depth details about the experience you had. (A little secret, our bread is only 3 ounces! The way it expands in our clay oven makes it seem larger than it really is..and IT'S VEGAN ;) We do offer a veggie platter that has all of our cooked vegetables over rice and comes with bread. Please know that we cater to all dietary needs and can gladly swap out any carbs for more veggies. If you get a chance, come by our Courthouse location, the eggplant stew that is prepared there is AMAZING!

I thank you for checking us out and look forward to serving you in the near future.

This is interesting - I was right there last Tuesday afternoon, and it looked very crowded.

Congratulations to Sophia, with our continued thanks for being a member here.

Continued gratitude to the great cheezepowder for all the work they've done here.

To our readers: Don't forget how good cheesesteaks can be when wrapped in tandoor-fresh naan.

    Don!

Happy new year and thank you so much, I hope all has been well with you! Also, a thank you to cheezepowder for forwarding our exciting new info. We are thrilled to have 2 locations. To share a bit of info, the courthouse location has more seating (close to 50 to be exact) we do offer the same menu as our original Lee highway location but have added weekday lunch specials, vegetarian samosas and a couple more vegan veggie sides that we are unable to do at our smaller lee highway kitchen :)

You can check us out at www.courthousekabob.com or feel free to email me directly with any questions ! courthousekabob@gmail.com

I remember that they were reliable, but used to be on the "sweet" end of the flavor spectrum

Some of their dishes still are on the sweeter side (The sweet and sour chicken was almost like eating pure candy 😣) The Street food I have had the boat noodle soup and Sukiyaki which are very good, I'm just a sucker for Panaang Curry

  4. Under new management and located in Sterling VA this place hits the mark for all things kabob and a restaurant should be. Great food, cleanliness and customer service. The grape leaves and bone in chicken are perfectly seasoned with the perfect char. If you're in the Sterling area I would definitely say to try it out 😄

  5. I spent many years every summer traveling to Ocean City, MD and surprised I had never tried a small place nearby I was staying called Crabcake Factory on 122nd St. From the outside it looks like a small neighborhood bar, not much to offer but ohhhh man! I had the best crab cakes I've had by far anywhere in the DMV and west coast! I had their signature 5oz crab cake with a side of fries and coleslaw. The crab cake was jumbo lumps held together with possibly a thin egg batter, there was ZERO fillers, just pure crab and old bay :) The coleslaw had a nice creamy crunch and the fries (I drenched with vinegar) added the perfect amount of acidity. Service was friendly, they were super busy with the Memorial day weekend crowd so it was fine if service was a little more slow. Overall highly recommended!

  6. My favorite Chinese place! The duck, kung pow chicken, garlic sprouts, lo mein and orange chicken wings are out of this world. You can see bits of fresh orange zest in the sauce. I'm sure it's not so much traditional for orange chicken wings but they are definitely delicious.

Yesterday, I stopped in The Halal Guys at University Mall in Fairfax. I was in a huge hurry, and got a medium (they only have "small" and "medium") Combo Gyro and Chicken Platter to go, served atop rice, with iceburg lettuce, a few mini-wedges of spongy pita, and squirted with white (mild) and/or red (very hot) sauces. It looked very much like the picture above "Platters" on their website, and was an ample portion of food. I don't remember exactly how much it was, but all-in, including tip, it was under $10 - it was ... okay: better than Chipotle (this is a fast-casual restaurant), mainly because the meats aren't sloppy ... the gyro meat was dry, and spooned up from a steam tray; the chicken meat was also dry, and tonged off the flat-top. When I say "dry," I mean "not sitting in liquid" - the meats themselves were sufficiently moist.

Given the location (this shopping center is a food *desert*), I'd do it again, but if you're heading towards the Beltway, you'll pass The Swiss Bakery before you get there, and the ham-and-cheese croissants there (one of few savory items) are better than anything you'll find at The Halal Guys.

Did you ever try it in NYC early 2,000 era?

I thought the pulled pork and the brisket were both good, though they didn't provide a lot of it for a platter.

Their portions were huge and at a lower price on their food truck. There's a compensation when moving from a food truck to a brick and mortar space, price change or portion change. They do have quality food which would definitely be worth the up charge in price. Wishing them all of the best of success!

I live in Arlington, VA, but cannot get DC restaurants to deliver "across the river" to me, even though I live about five minutes from the city, ten minutes from The Wharf, and fifteen minutes from Barracks Row, The Yards, and Nationals Park. Any possible explanations?

Restaurants tend to limit the distance not only to improve delivery times but more so because it is a liability. In cases of an accident, both the driver and business is held liable. If a business expands their driving distances to populated areas where accidents are more frequent or other states (DC/MD no matter how close you are to those state lines) you open the doors to greater risk of accident. Shall that happen the insurance premium for a business owner goes up.

  10. I've never been a fan of fusion food when it comes to tacos. I recently tried Taco Saam; a korean fusion taco spot located in Falls Church Culmore shopping center. Something about these they are doing right. I got a mix of 4 tacos, (2) Authentic Mexican carne asada and pollo tacos and (2) fusion Korean bulgolgi and galbi. The authentic Mexican tacos weren't anything extraordinary I would come back for. The bulgolgi was more on the sweet side- didn't have much depth to it other than a generous sprinkling of sesame seeds on top. Something about the beef short rib galbi had me! Perfectly seared meat, good balance of sweet/salty topped with a crunchy spicy kimchi. The best part I must commend is making the tortillas fresh to order. I do think that has a leg up on a lot of other places serving tacos.

The establishment was clean, well kept.A very small area with about 6 bar stools only at the counter. Service was average.

Kids & I visited the Vienna location on Sunday, at the same time as a large family Easter gathering (just a bit strange, loads of small children), had the Arabe & SanDiego tacos.  I thought the tacos at Springfield were a bit better (the chicken on my Arabe was kind of cold) & I’m giving up on fish tacos, you don’t get enough fish to even taste it (Foo Fighter at Springfield, while even smaller, was tastier).  I love the salsas & will continue to try other menu options.

As far as portion and flavor, Tortas Y Tacos La Chiquita in Arlington has good fish tacos. Living in CA a number of years the simplicity of an authentic taco is key; cilantro, online and squeeze of lime is just about all one needs and this place does it well. All their menu items are done very well. My only complaint is their carne asada has taken major short cuts, "steak-umms" meat chopped up does not constitute carne asada by any means in my book.

There's nothing special about Yechon.  Han Gang or Woo Lae Oak.

Woo Lae Oak is good, Han Gang depends on what you like to order IMO..

Question for the group: My kids are begging to go back to Honey Pig. Personally, that much meat gives me the meat sweats, but once or twice a year I'll bite the bullet. I'd like to suggest an alternative if there's a good one. I've had sushi at Yechon but that was many moons ago. Is the barbecue appreciably better than Honey Pig?

Honey Pig just seems overly marinated, you can't enjoy the flavor of the actual meat...used to be very good but as it popularized something about it changed
