  1. Any suggestions to what your favorite burger places are?

I've only heard many people talk about five guys which I'm not a fan of, too greasy for me. Closest I've found that I've enjoyed around the DMV is shake shack- reminiscent of my love for in-n-out when I lived on the west coast.

  2. My most memorable places living in the bay area was

    • the stinking rose in SF - Italian
    • El grullense in Pacheco -the BEST mex food ever in my life!!
    • pier market stand in SF pier 39 - clam chowder in nostalgic SF sourdough bread bowl
    • china bistro in Walnut Creek - fried rice, dumplings, chow mein..all things chinese food
    • pho saigon in El Sobrante - so comparable to pho 75 in Arlington but slightly better
    • Kinders in Pleasant Hill and various locations - Hands down best bbq and filet sandwiches

oh I can keep going on and on

  3. I love TJ's. The one thing to be careful about is their frozen foods, although they are tasty they are loaded with sodium! Some I've seen reaching well up unto the 1,000mg. On a more positive note they have everything you can possibly look for. I made a mean quinoa paella using their smoked andouille chicken sausage and veggie stock. Along with a bunch of fresh veggies, shrimp, roasted red peppers..just talking about it i'll have to make some for dinner again tonight

I also remain unconvinced that Vietnamese meatballs are 100% meat.

Funny you think that, I always thought the same until I saw a friend of mine make them. It's a combination of ground meat and cornstarch ground in the food processor until a paste. From there dropped to cook into boiling water to obtain that "spongy/springy" texture

Maybe I should have ordered some grilled meat. Is that the strength here?

I started with some hummus and then had the falafel entree. The hummus was fine. The pita was dense. My eight little balls of tasty falafel rolled around in a big bowl. The best part of the meal was the side of zucchini which was nicely seasoned and not overcooked. I didn't find any cause for excitement about the salads.

Looking at the lunch menu, I was struck by some of the prices. $34 for lamb chops?!? $31 for a ribeye?!? I don't get it.

The cost is probably associated with rent. I've seen places in Rockville that went well above $45.00 a sq ft

We've gotten their combo platters several times since my original post back in January, and continue to love the food. The kabobs and rice are still great, and their tzaziki, which i originally didn't care for, has grown on me. Also, underappreciated by me, until now, are their side dishes, particularly the tabouli, chick pea, and potato dishes they serve. They're really tasty, and not just after-thoughts.

The best part of this place, however, are the people and the service they provide. So kind, so accommodating. Always willing to give extra sauces free of charge, even when offering to pay for them. Oh, and last time, we miscommunicated on my order, and so they gave me a free kabob, and even though i said over and over again that i would pay for it because i'd happily eat it for lunch the next day, they wouldn't let me (I tried to make up for it by tipping appropriately).

Anyway, you'd be hard pressed to find a place with a better combination of great food and great service.

I thank you for your continued business and kind words. I stick firm to the belief treat others how you would want to be treated..simple as that. I do remember your order and apologize again about the miscommunication. If we goof up on your order that's totally our responsibility to fix the situation which I'm happy to hear from this post that we did :)

Have a wonderful and happy holiday!

And a reminder that Arlington Kabob has one of the best steak-and-cheese sandwiches in town, untraditionally (but wonderfully) served on freshly baked naan. I understand that raving about a steak-and-cheese here is bordering on heresy, when they have so much else to offer, but it's really good! And for a carryout lunch it's even better.

I'm happy to hear you enjoy the steak and cheese. I remember to nix the mayo and add extra green sauce for the next time you order ;)
