don't buy futures. I think the general feeling is that there are some good wines and many average ones in 04 classified Bordeaux. IMO, 2001 is a vintage that is worth pursuing as it was overshadowed by 2000 similar to 1983 and 1982. 2002 has been described as very tannic and hard to drink. Given the extreme heat in 2003 in France, this vintage must be approached carefully. I won't get into right and left bank as this gets subjective. I haven't tasted enough wines to be more specific and I'm sure others will disagree with me. One wino's opinion.

Hi Jake. How goes the wine biz? I visited the Laurel Meat Market last Friday and noticed they were selling a variety of buffalo cuts including buffalo flank steak. I may grill some this weekend.

Wide world of wines used to maintain a listing of corkage friendly places in DC but I can't find it. Off the top of my head, Bistro Francais $10, Coppis Organic $15, Caucus Room has waived corkage for me in the past. Lavandou $15 but no charge on Mondays. Call ahead and ask. Johnny Rooks rules listed above are good-share the wine and tip well and you shouldn't have any issues.

Cleveland Park Liquors always has an excellent cheap and cheerful selection. They just had a closeout on the 02 Charles (chuck to his friends) Whiffen SB from New Zealand at $8 with the case discount so I bought two cases for summer quaffing. The older vintage didn't put me off as I know this producer ages nicely though I will drink my bottles this summer.

Hey mr food - which restaurants allow it in Baltimore?  Just curious...if my interpretation of the MD Code is correct, it is a violation of their liquor license so I don't ask.  But, if some restaurants are willing, I'd certainly like to be in the know.

I know a lot of foodies turn up their nose at OE but I always enjoy my visits there. Friendly service and a large menu usually means there's something for everyone. Ok, it ain't cutting edge but it's my kind of place. Raw bar is awesome and a what a deal at half price. One of these years I'll make it to the fall oyster night.

I've had good luck at Sniders and the Laurel Meat Market-pat the cow on the way in-but I'm interested in hearing from the learned group here.

thanks for the update. You picked a good spot but best of luck dealing with the county re wine and spirits; their policies are not consumer friendly to say the least. I gues I'll have to wander over to VA for a good steak in the meantime.

It's restaurant option in DC. It may be illegal but I've brought wine into several places in the Old Town area. I think some places in Baltimore allow it. No way in MC or PG. Always call ahead.
