  1. Yes!  I passed by today and it looks as if everything's on schedule...

    http://www.heatherfreeman.com/webpage/hanks/hanks.html

I guess the menu isn't up yet, but soon...

Actually, this is the real website:

    http://www.hanksdc.com/

    (also under construction)

I found it at the bottom of the page. It comes up as a .pdf. I'm in, especially since Al is buying. (Hey Al, a coworker was wearing your Fat Albert shirt today  )

  2. I definately agree we can rotate days.

Obviously there isn't one day that is not going to work for everybody. This week did not happen due to work and illness. As already stated, we agreed that we would move the dates around. While the pollwill help determine days that work for some people now, remember that not everyone participates and that people's schedules change.

  3. And why would you never get there?  And I agree that we need an explanation.

Insert standard hillvalley speech about how underpaid and unappreciated teachers are in this country plus some ramblings about tuition payments here.

I have a feeling that the $16 bar tart isn't what we think. oh Rocks........(he must be trying everything on a menu somewhere and can't get back to us  )

  5. I think we can rotate days so all can enjoy but I defer to the inventor of the concept.  Hillvalley what do you say?

Since I will be in class 4 days a week night for the month of June I definately agree we can rotate days.

For the inagural meeting why don't we meet at 7 at Sabang. If someone could post an address that would be great. We'll keep this informal so if you plan on joining us either post here or send me an email. I'll post a final list Monday night.

FunJohnny, we will definately take you up on your wife's offer. What about a Sunday in June?

  6. If you are going for the purity of the tomato then I would think all additions except possibly salt would then influence the flavor. Assuming you use olive oil that right there could change the body of the sauce. To do this right maybe the sauce should just be pureed tomatoes and a touch of salt. Otherwise there are a number of uncontrollable variables that could affect the flavor of the tomato.

  7. Here is the current running list of who is coming and what they are bringing. Instead of having a ton of random lists going, I'll update this one every couple of days as needed. Feel free to post or email me with any changes I should make.

    Heather+3-oatmeal cookies and salad

I'm too tired to find an eloquent way of saying this so here goes: we would love to have more new faces at the picnic. Don't worry about your cooking skills, we are more interested in the company.

  8. I would check out Literi's on NE. They have the widest range of imported tomatos thta I have seen locally (including the Italian Store).

Even if you don't find the tomatos you want its worth a trip down their for their subs. They make Italian Store look like Subway.

  9. There are at least 4-6 weeks before you are going to find any corn worth eating, let alone tasting really good. Remember what the farmers say "Knee high by the 4th of July". Once the season hits though, most of the farms at Dupont, Arlington, 36th & Alton, Takoma, etc. will have great corn.

I picked up some great garlic, cilantro, basil and greens yesterday at 36th & Aton. They will be there for one more week and then shut down for a month

  10. My name is Hillvalley and I too am a Palena-holic. I do not wish to enter a 12 step program because then I would lose the perfect way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

I cannot imagine a better place to be than at the bar enjoing the artichoke and fontina panini washed down with a bloody mary. Yet another blissful creation by the chef. This is not your mother's grilled cheese sandwich. Go to Palena, eat the panini, talk to the other people at the bar who are in the same blissful state. You will thank me.

  11. I have kept a running list going off line. I don't want to clutter up the board with other threads or this kind of post until we got closer to the date. Some us still have to get through Mother's Day before we can think about the picnic.

I'll post a list of what we have so far in the next day or so others can start thinking about what they want to bring and what we still need.
