  1. The Spanish Wine Academy tried to hold some classes in this area last year. I believe this was the effort of Mr. Campo. I signed up for the classes in the spring, but they were cancelled and rescheduled in August. I was unavailable in August. Can anyone tell me if these classes were ever conducted in August?

  2. Inspired by today's Food section article in the Post, I must say that I too have an obsession with sandwiches. So, where do you get your favorite sandwiches? Off the top of my head, two of my favorites are the Surfside at Jettie's and the croque monsieur at Brasserie Beck. I think we should exclude burgers, especially since they have their own topic.

This is a pretty lame topic for an story.

  3. I've been at XM for 8 years, so I know how bad it is. We like to say we have equal access to the three major food groups: McDonald's, Wendy's, and Burger King.

Literi's is a good option, and they are reliable, but they get busy. It is best to fax your order.

There is an new Chicken place called Luciana's Cafe that is pretty good, and a good value. Rotisserie chicken roasted over a wood fire. They are at the corner of North capital and P St. NW.

In the spring time, we have the new "On The Run" Foodmobile parked by our building. They offer a pretty good option.

There is a basic coffee shop in the People's bulding, that is not great but offer an option.

Five Guy's has been open for about a month, but I can't handle that food, myslef. Others here like it.

I didn't like the sandwich offerings at the coffee shop in the ATF Building.

The new Tacoria National (apologies for the poor spelling) is good and worth a walk.

Otherwise you are left to the dimishing shops at and near Union station. For a special treat we take the subway in to MCI area.

  4. We're making an effort to improve some of the aspects of the chat. If there are particular technological issues or other problems you are having with Todd's chat, could you message me with the details? It'd be enormously helpful.

    Thanks!

I wouldl ove to see the "technological" improvement of left justifying the text. Graphic cuteness is a PITA to read.

  5. Bon Apetit has been going down hill for years. Trendier, glitzier and just plain worse. I first noticed the decline two graphical format changes ago. I have been tried to decide whether to drop my subscription or not.

I agree Saveur is a fine work. I like Cook's Illiustrated, also.

  6. I have placed an order with Kongsgaard for a few bottles. I was just told they shipped via UPS, and told me to expect it in 7 to 10 days!

When I wrote to complain about it, this was the response:

"Due to local laws (DC permits only one bottle to be shipped directly to a consumer per month), we are forced to use the more time-consuming three-tier method to ship to your state. Orders are shipped via refrigerated truck to a local wholesaler, then a local retailer, and finally, via UPS, to you."

Can anyone else confirm this claim that DC only allows one bottle per month to be shipped directly to a consumer? It sure sounds ridiculous to me.
