Just returned from a long weekend in Vegas, we stayed at the Cosmo and hit some pretty good places:
Milo's (Cosmo) - great value, 3 course lunch menu for $20.13. Excellent fresh fish.
Gordon Ramsay Steak (Paris) - didn't think it could live up to the hype but it was fantastic. Very lively and loud restaurant but had great energy. Not a cheap meal but any means but my prime rib cap was quite possibly the best piece of meat I have ever had. Also, the sticky toffee pudding desert was excellent. Highly recommend.
Border Grill (Mandalay) - awesome tapas style all you can eat brunch on weekends for $29.99 plus $5 for bottomless mimosas.
Comme Ca (Cosmo) - only had a couple drink and a few apps before a show, great deal at happy hour. Very nice hand crafted cocktails.
American Fish (Aria) - stopped in late after a show and ordered a few small plates and an appetizer, very fresh fish.
Secret Pizza (Cosmo) - down an unmarked hallway, they should keep it a secret, not worth the late night calories.
Holsteins (Cosmo) - wanted to try Burger Bar at Mandalay but if was getting late and we were starving. Really good burger (Nom Nom burger), pretty nice beer list. Cool place to hang out for awhile and watch the inauguration parade.
Bartolotta (Wynn) - ate that bar here after a show at the Wynn, great service, and very good fish. we had an octopus appetizer that was excellent, a pasta (can't recall name and menu on line is not the same) and the orata salmoriglio. Probably the best meal we had although not cheap either, the fish alone was $105.
Wicked Spoon (Cosmo) - we had 2 free vouchers for buffet breakfast and am I glad I didn't pay for it. lots of variety but I'm just not a buffet person. skip it unless it is free.

Heading to Vegas next weekend with the wife for 3 nights, first time for her. We are staying at the Cosmopolitan. I have been trying to plan some meals and I am getting overwhelmed with options. Any suggestions that won't break the bank. Not looking to drop $400-500 for dinner. Also, my wife is not a fan of the tasting menus.

We often get bagels here since it so close and are always pleased with the quality. Also, make some great egg sandwiches. Just wish they would work on their coffee - it is not good. The staff are great and have been there for years.

My wife and 11 yo daughter tried out the new Bethesda location and were extremely pleased with the result. It is a very small space with maybe only 12 or so tables and a small bar. We were a little surprised when they asked if we had a reservation since there were on 4 people in the place but its was still early 6:15 or so.
We tried the following:
Chips Chilli - $7.75 Finger chips deep fried until golden brown, then stir-fried with garlic, onlion and capsicum
Kukhura ko Sekuwa (Barbeque Chicken) - $8.95 cubes of chicken breast marinated in mustard oil and Himalayan spices grilled in charcoal oven.
Khasi ko Masu (Goat Curry) - $17.95 Tender goat pieces with bone sauteed in ginger and garlic, marinated in Himalayan spices, cooked in mild tomato and onion sauce. Served with Basmati rice or naan.
Lamb Rogan Josh - $16.25 Traditional lamb curry cooked with chopped onions, tomatoes and fresh ground spices and yogurt.
Bread Basket - $7.95 Plain naan, garlic naan and tandoori roti. (enormous portion - probably enough for 6-8 people)
Not an expert nepalese and indian cuisine but we all enjoyed the meal very much, service was friendly and quick.
When we left the place was packed with quoted wait times of an hour so it appears to be doing well which is nice to see. The also offer delivery within a 2 mile radius (we are 2.2 miles away so hopefully we can convince them).
Look forward to working our way through some more of the menu.

I've seen it at DC Safeways, Giants, and Whole Foods. Looks like the one issue is no one seems to carry their full product line. Generally I've seen 3-5 flavors at any one time, but they have 20 different flavors. Maybe larger grocery stores in the burbs will have a greater range of their product.
But basically everyone I know who has tried it instantly falls in love...I've even had conversations with grocery store cashiers about which flavors are best!
Balducci's (both Old Town and Bethesda) usually has the seal salt caramel and I may recall seeing it at Harris Teeter in Potomac.

Anyone know how hard it is to walk in here on a Saturday early evening (before 6 pm) and grab a couple bar seats? How many bar seats do they actually have here?
-
Grocery store discovery - Talenti Gelato is pretty fantastic stuff.
My mom turned us on to this as well and the kids love it also. Although Giant by us has stopped selling the sea salt caramel, which is their favorite.

I am also on here ate least daily but don't post reviews nearly often enough since unfortunately our dining out revolves our kids, which involves one very picky eater. We often eat out in Bethesda which we all know is a wasteland of mediocrity. I try to post our better meals but don't have the sophisticated palate of most on this board, plus my wife is not willing to try many new things so we are kind of limited.
Making it a New Years resolution to post more often.

They were open and we grabbed a few sandwiches - braunschweiger, grinder, meatball and pastrami. Really, really good stuff. Everyone in the house is stuffed plus still have leftovers. More like large enough for 3 or 4 people.
-
Anyone know if they are open today? Looking to pickup some sandwiches for lunch today for a house full of people.
-
Lowcountry Backyard - very good low country fare and reasonable prices.
Skullcreek Boathouse - family friendly and great water views. Large menu, something for everyone.
Roastfish and Cornbread - another great option for Lowcountry fare.
Michael Anthony's - upscale Italian, little pricey but very good.
Alexander's - another upscale spot but pricey.
Couple of laid back spots:
Dunes House - great spot right on the beach, usually with nightly entertainment and specials cooked on the grill (lobster night, steak night, etc)

From their December e-mail:
We've signed the lease and submitted our building plans for county approval. We're hoping to open in the Spring. For those who are map-curious, the address is 962 Wayne Avenue, at Georgia Avenue. We can't wait.

Looks like the new location is Bethesda (4925 Bethesda Ave - most recently Queen Bee).

A couple of us stopped in yesterday for a free staff training lunch. The new space is impressive and quite a transformation from the Popeye's space. A welcome addition to the lunch options around here.
I think today is another training day with the actual opening tomorrow (10/24).

Looks to be closed - paper on the windows.

$20 is pushing the envelope for mussel pricing. As much as I enjoy their preps, seeing that $20 price tag makes me cringe. Mussels are relatively cheap compared to other shellfish, and that's how they can get away with it, but this is exactly what Starbucks did with coffee (and it worked).
Now up to $22 and $24. Was about to head here for today but just can't do it.

Old Town Alexandria is a disaster - slow service, overcooked burgers, not very friendly.

Heading to the Springsteen concert on Friday night at Nats stadium. Looking for someplace to tailgate or meet up with friends before the concert.
Have not been down there recently so not sure what options we have. Is the Bullpen still open? Can we tailgate in the parking lot?

My wife works near the Laurel Butcher and stops in often for steaks, etc. We recently purchased a Big Green Egg and I am going to take my first shot and smoking a whole brisket. We can order from the Laurel Butcher for $3.99/lb.
