hillvalley and I will be meeting up at the Circle Bistro this evening around 6:15-6:30 if anyone wants to join us.
Wish I could join you, but I have other plans tonight. Enjoy some of those sweetbreads and make sure to sample a dessert or two as they are very much worth it.

This joint has "On a Whim" written all over it. The first round of oyster shooters are on me!
Offer good one per person. Must be over 21 years of age to participate. Must also be under 22 years of age. Current or former employees of Al Dente Enterprises or any of his subsidiaries will not be considered. Not valid with any other offers. Bivalves, fish, and ventworm nuts prohibited. Do not drive or operate heavy machinery after participating. May cause fatigue, dry mouth, night sweats, bed spins, dizziness, and changes in libido. No refunds. Store in a cool dark place.
You got that right. Since there is no $20 Tuesday event planned for next week, should we plan on invading one night after work?

I am surprised to see all the 'too salty' comments on the hot dog. The last 2 that I have had were great and I am not a salt fiend. Too bad as they are pretty darn good when they are on.

The date for the pasta making/tomato tasting session will be on Saturday June 4th. Time and other details will follow as we get closer to the event.
Here is the current list based upon people that told me that the 4th would work for them. For all you others please let me know.

Sure but next week is not a possibility due to other commitments -- basically every night but Tuesday. Shall we try for the following week?
Edited to add: Malaysia Koptium
Ok, so where and when is the gethering next week?

Plump and Plumperer.
Who should star in THIS movie?
Please do not answer this question...

Did anyone notice any bedding plants - namely Thai basil? Although I saw some last year at mid-summer, it shouldn't be too early to plant now.
I bought some 2 weeks ago at the DuPont market. I think it was the vendor next to the guy selling milk. They have all sorts of other bedding plant and herbs as well.

It appears that Tuesdays are bad for a bunch of people. Perhaps a poll as to which day of the week people would prefer is in order? Or perhaps instead of doing it on Tuesdays or always on a particular day, rotate among different days of the week so that more people can participate.
I am surprised that it did not work out as there seemed to be quite a few people that were planning on attending.
Oh well, so what day next week? Tues, Wed, ...?

Sooooooooo how was the S(h)abang?
Should we try for the peruvian place that shogun suggested for next week? Say Tuesday?

On Monday nights only the cafe menu is available. On other nights you can order from the regular menu as well. While I have not had a chance to stop in for Saturday lunch yet, I think the panini are only offered then.

We used to do the sushi buffet for lunch at Matsutake and it was passable.

From what I have heard the movie was not that good. Has anyone seen it that can provide some info?

Ok everyone I have 15 people that have expressed interest, which is probably the limit that we can somewhat comfortably fit in my kitchen.
Only one person has chimed in with a date preference. To refresh everyone's memory the dates to select from are Saturday June 4th and Saturday June 11th. Time is TBD.
Please email or PM if you have a preference.

The sign said last week for ramps at the DuPont Farmer's market. Hope all of you that wanted some got 'em.
I got some pea shoots today so I can see what all the fuss is about.

After visiting 21P and the little duck mishap I decided to grab dinner in the lounge at Corduroy.
I had Chef Power's version of softshell crab and it was delicious. Light and crispy on the outside that complimented the soft and sweet crab meat. The body was wrapped in the "shredded phyllo" from the mozzerella porcupine and was served on a bed of greens with verjus.
I had the striploin for dinner, which enough has been said about, but can say that I did not taste any pork flavor. I could have eaten a plate more of the herbed turnip gratin that was served on the side.
I had the pineapple tart for dessert as was recommended and did not leave unhappy. A nicely carmelized pineapple upside down cake with a portion of pistachio ice cream with a pineapple chip on top.

Hi all, I'm new to the board (just got my ID cleared). Mktye alerted me to the site and the picnic and asked me to come along. I'm a pretty desserty person, so I'm sure I'll be bringing something sweet. Maybe a batch of coleslaw too, and the folks who don't like to see it on BBQ can just look the other direction.
I do have a hand-crank ice cream machine and am happy to bring it, along with some custard to churn. No real need to the ice cream to cure after churning, as long as you like a soft-serve consistency that'll melt pretty quickly. Just let me know, and I'll haul it along.
If this bkeith of BCakes then dessert will be a great idea.

I thought it would be kind of cool to crank up a batch of ice cream at the picnic. The only trouble is that you need to cure the ice cream for a couple hours and thus it might take too long.
How many gonads do you have?
-
Does anyone have a hand crank ice cream maker?
I have an electric one, why? Did you want to have an ice cream making session at the picnic or do you want somebody to bring some homemade ice cream?
-
I think it would be wise for us to wait a bit to put it on our happy hour to do list...

I will bring my iPod and speakers than run on batteries. If anyone has requests i will try to get them downloaded before 5/22.

It's also a good idea to cut thier ass' off and if your are really adventurous to stick a finger in where thier smiling faces used to be and remove the ballast sack- It has a propensity to explode and spew hot grease on whoever is cooking it. I like the goo(tamale) and don't remove it.
Another episode in the glorious life of being a chef.

I think with the large menu you have to know what to order. Not that this is an acceptable solution. I for one have had some lame dishes, and when I order tend to stick with the ones that have been good in the past, plus one or two new items to try. The ones that you mentioned as being lows were either ones that I have not enjoyed or have had been mentioned by friends as being so so. The tacos seem to be pretty consistent and when I have tried the various specials they have been good.I've eaten there three times, the latest being last week, and have never had a better than mediocre meal there. The food's been OK with some high points (mole fries, dessert, blossoms), but more considerable lows (scallop ceviche, quail w/ rose petals, cactus salad, beef tamales). The service has been generally spotty, once with the server offering us a check before one of the entreés coming, but I don't think that's such a big deal. The drinks have always been superb, and the bartenders friendly. The decí³r is fantastic, and I like the crowds, but the food is just OK, which isn't what I expect from Mr. Andrés.
That said, I can't understand the unmitigated raves that come from this place, especially from Sietsema whose taste seems to mesh with mine. This leaves me feeling a little jealous that all of these people are having phenomenal meals while I'm stuck wishing I was at home with my Mexican friends' moms' cooking.
I do love the free parking, however, but I might pass up Oyamel for Chipotle or Jaleo next time...

While I enjoy the cajeta as well, the Café de Olla does it for me.Some nice praise for Steve Klc's desserts there. Man, I love that goat milk cajeta.

Don't let that comment stop you. I would love to see different desserts with a ventworm theme!
