FWIW -- Monastrell is the Spanish name for Mourvedre.
Never heard of Bobal.

Tasted these all this year?
Wow, Joe I'm impressed. One question -- When are you sober enough to keep notes?
Oh yeah, welcome!

Passage to India!
I've heard some good murmurs about New Orleans Bistro, but I thought that it was at a price point (cheap) that wouldn't much benefit from the Restaurant Week paradigm.

PS - My wife's new boss designed the current nutrional label under contract for the FDA. Pretty cool, huh?

Speaking of sodium -- go into Panera and look at their nutritional breakdown. That shit's worse for you than McD's

Over at the Society , I had a big debate with Steve Klc and Sam Kinsey about Chipotle. I had received a nutrition breakdown on request from them and was shocked at the fat and the sodium content.
Steve's position was that they are marketing "fresh not healthy". I thought he was full of it and that they blur the lines and market "fresh" as signifying healthy.
Kinsey was on the Steingarten worshipping "no link between sodium and blood pressure". Steingarten has pulled the old "all the dr's are lying. My group of researchers show no links". Both the AMA and the British Medical Association say that some hypertension is indeed not affected by salt, but there's no way of telling which cases. As long as that is the case, I'm going to follow their advice and watch my intake.

g'morning! Since I am new here, I thought I would start with breakfast....same as per usual....coffee, Peanut butter & jelly sandwich (mom's homemade jelly), fresh fruit...and more coffee.
Excellent.
And welcome.

No french press? Or were you stuck with whole beans?
Whole beans. I grind fresh every morning.
Didn't exactly have the patience to pull out mortar and pestle.

Options limited this morning as we had no power. (No effing coffee!)
Thank jebus for gas stoves and a can of chicken noodle soup in the pantry.

I'm a big Cafe Ole fan. Somewhere on a eG I posted a rave.
In my book it's some of the best Eastern Mediterranean mezze around.
It also has one of the nicest patios in town.

The place where I've seen the most power players was the deli on the first floor of the CNN building just north of Union Station. Everyone makes it through there. Not a "power restaurant", but chock full of big names.
BTW -- Robert Reich really is that short. He almost needed a step stool to see over the counter. Wolf Blitzer on the other hand is a really big guy. About the height and build of our own Jacques Gastreaux.

I have a pretty interesting story about Rio Grande.
You see, there was this guy, pretty average in most respects. He was hungry one day and happened to stop into Rio Grande. He ordered a meal and consumed it, it doesn't really matter what it was. It wasn't the best meal he had ever had and it certainly wasn't the worst. It got the job done, though. The waitstaff was quick - not overly fast or anything and not too slow. They were also fairly pleasant. Nothing over the top, just pleasant. The man paid with his credit card and exited the restaurant. Three weeks later he received his credit card bill, which included the purchase at Rio Grande. He then paid his credit card bill, thus completing the transaction.
You captured it perfectly.
Post of the month nominee.

Absolutely, but that space has seen so many restaurants come 'n' go that I've lost count. Hopefully, if Willow proves to be the real deal, it will be supported in that neighborhood -- a difficult one to sustain a really good restaurant in. Rio Grande (as an example) I think enjoys the current record.
Are you claiming Rio Grande as a really good restaurant?

A quick check of their web site shows 67 Five Guys restaurants either open or soon to open.

There are several free online image hosting sites. I use www.imageshack.us to hold things like Peanut's favorite onesie --

I am actually looking to buy a rice maker. Does anyone have an opinion as to their favorite brands. I have done some research and it seems like a lot of people enjoy the Zojirushi brand.
That's what I have. Mrs JPW bought it when she was in grad school. It's been used about once a week for 7 or 8 years and never a problem. The "Keep Warm" setting works very well.

My cooker has measuring ticks for water on the inside of the bin.
No worrying about varying finger lengths.

There is one at 4800 Auburn Avenue in downtown Bethesda. A little under a 10 minute walk from the Bethesda metro station
Silver Spring store is about 5 blocks from metro straight up Colesville Rd.
