I have a meater Plus -- it works great, and is meant to be left in the food while cooking. (I use it for beef, chicken, etc.) It connects directly to the app on your cell phone.

I bought 2.  One as a gift for my brother.  Will give it to him before Thanksgiving so turkey would turn out perfect.

  2. Rehoboth

We usually go to Lewes for lunch but didn't see anything new or particularly good there so we ended up at Matt's Fish Camp.  I started with some nicely shucked oysters served with mignonette and cocktail sauce.  I didn't make the kids try them since it would just be a waste of money as they said they'd probably throw up.  Instead, they had some steamed clams and peel and eat shrimps.

We all shared a fried shrimp platter, which came with fries and cole slaw.  We also added two sides of smoked gouda mac 'n cheese and some kind of shredded brussels.

The shrimps were cooked perfectly in both preparations, and nicely seasoned.  The only thing lacking was the cole slaw, which didn't have much flavor.

Dinner was at Lupo Italian Kitchen.  In addition to the regular menu, they had some daily specials including a rabbit terrine.  We had that and some fried calamaries to start.  We then had three pastas: cacio e pepe, mushroom campanelle, and rigatoni bolognese.  The bolognese was the big winner with al dente pasta and a flavorful sauce.  The cacio e pepe was too salty but that was probably my fault by adding more cheese table-side before I even tasted the pasta.  Neither the cacio e pepe and the campanelle were al dente so that's another slight knock.  Still the only Italian place that I'll eat at at the beach.

Also bought an Italian sub at Casapulla's on Saturday for taking home on Sunday.  It definitely came in handy as there was an hour long delay on the Bay Bridge because they shut down the east bound lanes for people to walk/run across the Bay Bridge.  Stupidest idea ever but that's just my opinion.  We ended up eating the sub in the parking lot of the Queenstown outlets.

  3. Went to 9292 Korean BBQ and Puzukan Tan recently.  9292 has AYCE and Puzukan Tan has various combinations.  Since we don't pig out, Puzukan is actually a better deal (price-wise) and we end up with 4 proteins (each combo is 4 proteins) whereas we usually only get 3 while doing AYCE.  Both joints have corn cheese - not my thing but apparently very popular.  Both places also serve steamed eggs, again not my thing.

  4. Champions League draw:

    Liverpool vs. Real Madrid

    Eintracht Frankfurt vs. Napoli

    Borussia Dortmund vs. Chelsea

    Inter Milan vs. Porto

    Paris Saint-Germain vs. Bayern Munich

Actually my favorite part of the opera, aside from the last act is the gambling scene in the 3rd act when the clarinets shift into ominous F minor. I love that part. I always have trouble deciding which is the greater masterpiece,  Traviata, Rigoletto or Trovatore.

Saw Il Trovatore last night.  Great music and a wonderful production by the Washington National Opera.  One show left.

  6. Beuchert's Saloon has a really interesting menu of medium plates.

We started with roasted bone marrow and foie gras.  Their herb salad consists of mint and parsley.  I kinda preferred just parsley (like at St. John in London).  They also gave you some pickled pistachios and sauteed garlic/onions.

2nd round were Huitlecoche Campanelle and Blue Crab Spaghetti.  The handmade pastas were lovely but the campanelle was definitely a little too salty.  The spaghetti on the other hand was fantastic.  There's really not much crab meat in the dish but there's an intense crab fat (tomalley) flavor.  I've had crab fat pasta at Bad Saint and Jackie but they never matched the intensity of this dish in terms of flavor.  The dish also had noticeable heat from the Calabrian chiles.  If you get a chance, go try this dish.

Third round was their grilled scallops  and miso roasted honey butter squash.  Both dishes were very good but not quite as interesting as the medium plates.  Had I been alone or with my kids, I probably would've ordered the little neck clams pozole and the bucatini.

The picture only shows 2 marrow bones but they brought out 2 more later.  Unfortunately my photo of the pastas were super blurry so there's no point posting it.

Details of a month’s worth of dining (well, more like pigging out) & of sights to see, things to do, upon request.

I'm thinking about Montreal around Xmas.  Been there twice before but wanna go back because the food is so good.  My inclination is more of Au Pied de Cochon and Joe Beef.  What have you to recommend?  Looking for a la carte and not tasting menu, hearty and rustic rather than fine dining with particular emphasis on offal.  Cool sights also welcome.

  8. I went on a safari at the end of the great migration.  This is already their shoulder season.  So my safari agent subcontracted my safari out to another company that basically ignored my itinerary, resulting in lots of wasted time and frustration on my part.  This is apparently very common because the people that I shared the safari trucks with all booked with different agencies.

Masai Mara is awesome for game viewing.  If you go to multiple parks, make sure you go to Masai Mara last.  If you go to one park, then make it Masai Mara.  The food at all the lodges (3 & 4 star properties) that I stayed at are buffets.  Usually 3 Indianish vegetable dishes and 2 or 3 proteins (usually some tough beef, not so tender chicken and fish if there's a 3rd option), and a soup.  There's a salad but I'm not about to eat any raw vegetables in Kenya.

I don't know how I could have avoided my issues - other than pay for a private tour.  I suppose I could have asked whether they can sub me out but they would probably never admit they sub people out in the first place.

Eric, did you ever get back the remaining $25?

I also find it amusing the way they worded your refund `complimentary discount` because they are doing you the favor

I'm sure I got my money back.  I don't like pissing money away but I did today.  When I went shopping at Safeway, I entered the wrong phone number when I checked out.  Instead of getting 30 cents off per gallon of gas, I got nada.

  10. Let me count the [wayward] ways:

    1.  Hitching Post.  Orly?  Fried chicken huh?

    2.  Queen's English.  Hit or miss.  My last meal there was mostly misses.

    3.  Andy's Pizza.  Decent pizza.  Not great pizza.

    4.  Annie's Paramount Steakhouse.  WTF?

    5.  Art and Soul.  Again, WTF?

    6.  Artie's.  Third time, WTF.  Might as well include all the GAR group since they all serve pretty much the same food.

    7.  Bar Chinois.  Not even close to being good.

    8.  Shilling Canning.  Never been.  Winner of the most boring menu for me.

There are many restaurants on the list that I have never even considered going because they just don't sound good or have no reputation for good/interesting food.
