I'm looking for the best places to get the classics, as well as places where the mixologists are creating some wonderful new cocktails. Will be commuting fairly regularly from NYC, where our favorites include the usual suspects (Death & Co., PDT, Pegu, Mayahuel, Flatiron, M & H, etc.). Great food is a plus, but certainly not a necessity. By cocktail lounge, preferably a place where most everyone is seated and the person behind the stick really cares about the drinks he or she is serving to you.

Hi all, I'm a NYer, long-time poster on eG, avid restaurant goer, devoted cocktailian, pretty good home cook and a professionally trained "chef," though not working as one. My wife has accepted an exciting federal job, and we will be finding a place to live in DC, while keeping our apartment in NYC, and traveling between the two. Since I blog a bit about food, I'm very excited to learn about the DC restaurant, bar, and market scene and I'm sure I'll see you around the boards quite a bit - I look forward to it.
