For those of us not in-the-know (*), what about milling would prevent sorghum from being popped? I know about milling, but only kinda-sorta.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but isn't milling the process to turn it into flour?

Yeah. Milling would at least crack the kernels (if that's what they are called). Much like popcorn, you need the whole kernel to pop.

I'm going to have to make/buy some popped sorghum now. Or popcorn at least!

Serious question: If "milling" is the process of making flour, is "flour mill" a redundant term? Is the term "windmill," for example, just a derivation of the original meaning?

Next question: What, exactly, is flour? Please don't say "milled grains." :)

BTW, Kansas State University offers a degree in Milling Science.

I always thought milling equaled grinding.  So a windmill is something that grinds using wind power.  My theory falls apart with textile mill and sawmill
