  1. My 6-year-old, who won't be having a birthday party this year, has been eating a lot of ham sandwiches, hot dogs, and chicken fingers. 🙁But she'll also eat plain (well-rinsed) black beans from a can and a ton of fresh fruit, so let's focus on that. One day since school's been out she ate an entire Costco-sized container of blueberries. I'm thankful she's well past diapers.

  2. Governor Larry Hogan announced an executive order Monday to close all bars, restaurants, movie theaters, and gyms in the state of Maryland starting  5 p.m. on Monday. Drive-thru, carryout, and delivery will continue ... for now.

  3. I was just there 90 minutes ago. I'd never heard of it before yesterday. Funny you posted about it today. Unfortunately I was in a hurry and just got the house drip. It tasted fine but was lukewarm. I'm really not a coffee connoisseur, but I enjoyed the space and the service. Also, it smelled REALLY good in there (like cinnamon buns), but I didn't eat anything.

  4. Per Montgomery County Media Ricciuti's is closing Sunday after 28 years. The restaurant was sold to Thomas Zippelli, who plans to renovate the inside of the building and hopes to open a new restaurant called Salt and Vine by Mother’s Day.

I live in Silver Spring just north of the Beltway and we've been to Olney a couple of times for dinner, but sadly we never made it here.

  5. I went last week and the bread is now $12 and comes with two dips. I noticed above and in Tom's review apparently it used to be $9 with one dip. I enjoyed everything and didn't notice any salting issues (and I think I'm more sensitive than most to overly salted food). We had both breads and four dips (wish I could remember which ones, but I don't remember chicken liver mousse as an option), the champon noodles, the cavatelli, the branzino, the pork blade, and one really delicious smaller dish with uni that I don't see on the online menu.

  6. If they can give you e-mail addresses of their local friends you could also set up a Meal Train for them. Local friends can sign up to bring them homemade dinners or have food delivered from restaurants on a specific date (I suppose non-local friends could also have food delivered). Since most people have limited freezer space these meals could supplement the freezer meals.

I took advantage of this this past weekend. Our cashier/server (you order at a counter and at least in our case the same person brought our wine and food) was very nice but also a bit loopy and I thought the food was good not great with decent-sized portions, but this seemed like a great deal for a casual meal. My friend and I had the cabernet burger with chips, the shrimp scampi, and the "churronuts" with a tasty bottle of shiraz (wish I could remember more details about that), plus we added eggplant fries, and we each paid less than $30 including tip and tax.

  8. Mine is also obsessed with fruit snacks. I hate those things even more than Goldfish. I bought a huge box of them for her birthday party last year and hid the leftovers, but she remembered we have them and asks for them in her lunch every day. She didn't start asking for them until she started kindergarten, so I'm guessing other kids have them in their lunches. They're basically candy with a thin veneer of fruit!

  9. My 5-year-old is currently obsessed with chicken fingers (boo) and honeydew melon (yay). She's also starting to complain about too much repetitiveness in her packed lunches for school (even though she eats the same things over and over again in the rest of her life). I'm about to buy her a thermos so she can bring soup to school.

She claims to hate pizza and prefers to eat her pasta cold (but then complains that the Parmesan won't stick to it). 🤯

Well, it is largely random I am sorry to say. Sometimes it is hopping and sometimes....not. But largely, the early dinner crew is all checking out at 6:30pm and so there is a decent chance you can thread the needle. And always listen to the specials. Always.

Thank you! It's been a long time since I ate there (at least 5 years). If only they took reservations! 😂

  11. Does anyone know what the wait is like here on a Friday night if we don't get there right when they open (we'd probably be getting there around 6:30pm)?

I went once during the week after 6pm and didn't have to wait at all and I tried to go once on a Saturday shortly after they opened and there was a line out the door. This was a couple of years ago and I wondered what the current situation was.

  12. I was apprehensive to weigh myself this morning, but I persevered. Despite many cheat days in recent weeks I'm down a pound since I started WW on November 1st. I'll take it! Now hopefully with "the holidays" done I can make more progress.
