I've used cheddar and chevre with good results. I think it comes down to what you like better.

I love Scharffen Berger to nibble on, but not for mousse, cookies, or cake, as the texture ends up being dense and a little dry. Ghirardelli is my favorite 'daily' chocolate, followed by Valrhona or El Rey when I want something really special. The Valrhona 71% cacao makes a damn tasty mousse (I guess that particular chocolate really is my favorite). And I agree with zoramargolis that the El Rey discs are easy to use. I think I've gotten them most recently at La Cuisine.
I agree. Ghirardelli is a great "go to" chocolate for yur everyday use.

Allmans Barbeque in Fredericksburg is a true gem. It's been around since 1957 and is still family owned. Yes it's a trek out there, but when in rome...One of the best
I agree. Allmans is great. Then you go down the road a bit to Carl's to get Frozen Custard.

If you're in Prince William County, Global Foods has them.

Just crushed black pepper and salt. Lots and lots ands lots o' pepper.

Looks like it could be interesting. I'll give it a try once it opens.
Although I will say the few people I've met from North Dakota were a little on the strange side.

I'm not a fan of their ribs.

I need new shoes, just simple black flats but I'm having a heck of a time. The solution, as it almost always turns out to be, is a trip to Potomac Mills. I start at one end of the mall and stop at every shoe store until I find a pair of shoes that fits.
But where to have lunch????? Surely there must be something decent nearby that is easy to find.
I so often get Popeyes or give in to my secret Bob Evans fetish, but I want to branch out. Help me!
Thanks!
{Note that I checked Don's list of places in Virginia and clearly he has shoe needs that are more easily met than mine OR there is nothing out there...}

Try El Cuscatelco Restaurant across the street in the same strip center where the Outback is. They do Salvadorian and Peruvian cuisine.

Loved Roy's on my younger days. much better than McDonalds. There are still a few out there and I'll stop in now and again. Hardee's really screwed them up bad when they owned them.

I think this is a pretty damn good article on the DC dinning scene. They really did their homework, and this should give some credibility to food in DC! We are still far behind other major cities in some minds, as it relates to food. This is the most comprehensive good list I think I have ever seen published in a national magazine about the area.
I think the article said that the author worked at Citronelle in its early days.

A non-cooking food show that was a favorite was "A Cooks Tour" with Tony Bourdain.
As for cooking food shows I like, I've gotten useful stuff off of : Molto Mario, Every Day Italian (even though Giada smiles way too much), Entertaining with Michael Chiarello, and a few others like Jamie Oliver's show and some of Bobby Flay's stuff.
I hate Rachel Ray and Sara Moulton (for some reason she reminds me of a horse).

Going to Denver for meetings next week. Any good places I should try to get to?

No self-respectin' Southerner uses instant grits.
Click (Hopefully this link works.)
Very true. No self respecting Southerner will put something sweet like syrup or jelly on their grits either.

Quisp cereal
Quisp rocked!

How is that cookbook anyway? I've looked at it a few times at Borders...have you tried any of the recipes? I am thinking of purchasing it myself. I just got through listening to Kitchen Confidential (downloaded off of audible.com). He narrates it, and it is a real hoot. More fun than reading it myself I think. I guess I'm kind of out of it...didn't realize Les Halles here in DC is a sister restaurant of his NY one. My husband and I had a great meal there this summer.
I think it's a great cookbook. I've tried several of the recipes and they've come out great. Plus his intro and explanations are pure Tony Bourdain.

I have the book as well, although haven't tried any of the recipes yet.
Still working my way thru Tony Bourdain's excellent cookbook

You could tell that place was going to be a failure from reading the weekly updates in the Post Magazine on Frank. He was just to irresponsible to make a go at a venture like that.

Ate at Corduroy last Friday for my birthday. Everything was great. I had buffalo mozzarella porcupine and the halibut, my wife had the squash soup and the scallops. Everything was cooked to perfection. I also got to meet and chat with Rissa. Truly a delightful evening.

If it's something you're going to use year after year or use more than just for your turkey every T-Day, then I'd say bite the bullet and spend the extra few bucks to go with the quality product.

I agree with Capital Icebox. I've eaten at Bouchon in Vegas and the food was great and the waitstaff was awesome as well. It would be a welcome addition to the DC food scene if this rumor is true.

I'd have to agree for a "nicer" place Bistro Betham is great (they do a great Brunch on Sundays as well).
For more casual and a real piece of F'burg history you have to go to Allman's and Carls.

Where in the area would you say is the best place to find quality Moroccan food, where they pay attention to the food and not the entertainment?
I think everyone knows the answer is not Marrakesh in DC.
Taste of Casablanca in Arlington is better.
As for Belly Dancing, I think that is done simply for the tourist and the uninformed. My wife (who is from Morocco) says belly dancing is not a big thing over there.

I love the Curious Grape. Nice Selection, good prices, and they're educational as well.

FYI. Kitchen Confidential was on FOX, not NBC.
