  1. UPDATE: this place has been sold recently.  While I had hoped the new owner continued with the original recipes, they discontinued the large sub rolls, and I think the steak changed on the steak and cheese.  I have only been back once - the new owner is nice but was telling me about all the improvements and new menu items they recently added - website and new menu says "Under New Management."

  2. Understood and agreed.  Sadly Los Toltecos in Sterling was decent, not awesome, but decent until about 2 years ago, something changed.  I do not know if it was their recipes or chef(s) but originally when we tried it - you could get a reasonable meal, and top-shelf Margarita with fresh guac - there was usually a wait during the week, not that it means anything, but the place was busy.  They had a Mariachi band that roamed the restaurant and played good music.

We noticed the change was sudden and without notice.  It was as if someone had made a decision to change suppliers or recipes and the food went downhill fast.  We have not been back, but when I noticed the signage saying they were moving into the old Vapiano (pretty large space) at Dulles Town Center, I figured they must be doing well if they were expanding to that level.  I do not know what commercial spaces are renting for at DTC, but with the recent failure of Tilted Kilt and Vapiano (directly across from each other) and the closure of the Nordstroms at the same shopping plaza - seems like a riskier undertaking for an average (being kind) Mexican restaurant.

  3. Likely the parking debacle is the cause - having very limited use for RTC, there are many alternatives in reasonable distance.  At one time perhaps RTC was a destination, however as the suburban landscape is built out, expanded and modified, many other areas are creating their own Town Center-like hubs.  One Loudoun is a great example, although top-heavy with eating establishments, easy to get in/out of and plenty of free parking.  RTC may be an attractive place with all the new rental units, but apparently even they are struggling to fill the buildings. Future Reston Development is in Trouble.

There is substantial information out there about the continued challenges with all the "progress" being built in anticipation of the METRO expansion.

  4. 2nd solid recommendation for PestNow - had an issue with our pest control company we had used for 15 years - Called PestNow and they came out next day - very responsive and cordial.

  5. Excellent Cuban Sandwich Locally - with 2 DC area locations, try Colada - in Sterling - and off T Street in Downtown DC.  Having lived in Fort Lauderdale/Miami for many years and frequented Little Havana for Cuban sandwiches.  This place saves you the airfare, but the Sterling skyline pales in comparison to Miami's waterfront and beach area.

COLADA SHOP CUBAN Ham, Slow Roasted Pork, Swiss Cheese, Mustard, pickles and cilantro aioli, Cuban bread.

Great place to sit outside and grab a Cafe con Leche or Cuban Coffee - very nice outdoor seating area, and ample parking.
