BTW - Chase the Submarine is no more...
-
UPDATE: this place has been sold recently. While I had hoped the new owner continued with the original recipes, they discontinued the large sub rolls, and I think the steak changed on the steak and cheese. I have only been back once - the new owner is nice but was telling me about all the improvements and new menu items they recently added - website and new menu says "Under New Management."

As I was driving past RTC on an adjacent road, there was a large banner flying on the top level of one of the parking garages, touting FREE parking until December 26th.
In addition, one of today's headline's in Reston Patch: Salon that ditched RTC over Paid Parking to Reopen Monday
From RestonNow: same story.

Cheng's original location, opened about 30 years ago in Sterling, closed without notice recently. I believe Louis Cheng sold this location about 2013.

NYAJs to close Lansdowne Location Wednesday after 11 years at that location.
The not-really-Reston Town Center location is busy all the time, with free parking.

Understood and agreed. Sadly Los Toltecos in Sterling was decent, not awesome, but decent until about 2 years ago, something changed. I do not know if it was their recipes or chef(s) but originally when we tried it - you could get a reasonable meal, and top-shelf Margarita with fresh guac - there was usually a wait during the week, not that it means anything, but the place was busy. They had a Mariachi band that roamed the restaurant and played good music.
We noticed the change was sudden and without notice. It was as if someone had made a decision to change suppliers or recipes and the food went downhill fast. We have not been back, but when I noticed the signage saying they were moving into the old Vapiano (pretty large space) at Dulles Town Center, I figured they must be doing well if they were expanding to that level. I do not know what commercial spaces are renting for at DTC, but with the recent failure of Tilted Kilt and Vapiano (directly across from each other) and the closure of the Nordstroms at the same shopping plaza - seems like a riskier undertaking for an average (being kind) Mexican restaurant.

It appears the Los Toltecos in Sterling may be moving to to the former Vapiano spot at the Dulles Town Center
-
The Dulles Town Center Vapiano Location has closed, and will be replaced with Los Toltecos Mexican (local chain)
-
So the Dulles Town Center location is now closed.
-
Yea - just a bizarre thing to do - you would think they would make it free from now until year's end and try to help the retailers with the Holiday Shopping season. They delayed the implementation last year most likely for that reason.

Boston Properties: Reston Town Center Remains Strong Market

Likely the parking debacle is the cause - having very limited use for RTC, there are many alternatives in reasonable distance. At one time perhaps RTC was a destination, however as the suburban landscape is built out, expanded and modified, many other areas are creating their own Town Center-like hubs. One Loudoun is a great example, although top-heavy with eating establishments, easy to get in/out of and plenty of free parking. RTC may be an attractive place with all the new rental units, but apparently even they are struggling to fill the buildings. Future Reston Development is in Trouble.

There is substantial information out there about the continued challenges with all the "progress" being built in anticipation of the METRO expansion.

Just noticed this was still listed, restaurant closed and all signage is gone and has been for several months

There is another that is even better and more confusing, next time I go by there I will take a picture and post. Guaranteed to bring a smile and laugh to anyone who views it.

Excellent Cuban Sandwich Locally - with 2 DC area locations, try Colada - in Sterling - and off T Street in Downtown DC. Having lived in Fort Lauderdale/Miami for many years and frequented Little Havana for Cuban sandwiches. This place saves you the airfare, but the Sterling skyline pales in comparison to Miami's waterfront and beach area.
COLADA SHOP CUBAN Ham, Slow Roasted Pork, Swiss Cheese, Mustard, pickles and cilantro aioli, Cuban bread.
Great place to sit outside and grab a Cafe con Leche or Cuban Coffee - very nice outdoor seating area, and ample parking.

They did not mention the pizzas - the guy and his wife who cooked there for a long time were still there when I went. Looks like they are adding lots of Italian dishes and broadening their hours and delivery options too.
