boss is back tomorrow...I was hoping for a long lunch this week at the grill...

simdelish
do you also do kitchen consultations? I am curious what brands of convection ovens you like/dislke etc. (We are in the planning stages of a total kitchen renovation)

Does a listing exist anywhere of what is being poured at the "wined down happy hours?" I thought I had been on an email list previously, but I must've been dreamin'...

I started to wonder if this type of micro-critique would be happening at this level in a restaurant with a male chef, but then I thought...hmmm...better to be called "kind and gentle" than "crusty" !!
-
Anyone know next week's schedule? Boss will be away Mon-Thurs, so I could definitely go for a looooong lunch.
Ditto!

I had a wonderful soft-shell Tuesday night at DavidGreggory. Oh what a little butter and flour will do!
-
I'll be at DavidGreggory with my office for drinks and dinner...so can't hookup, but I did notice looking at the menu that they have a pretty nice looking happy hour that goes until 10pm.
I was thinking about stopping by FF tomorrow though, since my hubby needs to work a little late...
(a blip just happened while I was posting...is my monitor going, or did the skin just change from grey to a beige-green color?)

A relative from across the river has planned a father's day outing at this restaurant in Rockville...it doesn't appear to be new, yet I've never heard of it before. Anyone ever been and have any comments? Baronessa

BTW, Chef, Welcome to DR.COM! Nice to have you here...

Driving home this evening, I spied a place just off Georgia Ave in Silver Spring on Bonifant called Gelato! (Yes, the exlamation point is part of the name)
I've either been napping every time we pass by this place, or it is relatively new. Not even sure if it's open yet--anyone know anything about it? Good, bad, indifferent?
Feel free to add to the list other places that you've spotted and may be wondering about...

I would but I'm heading to Meriweather Post Pavilion tonight. Anyone have any recs near there for snacks and drinks?
I'm probably too late to catch you, but AN LOI for Pho and their specials--(I believe it's on Snowden River Pkwy)

Sigh--to follow a post from someone who writes very well is very depressing...writing was never my strength
Lovely time, great food, great company--This was our second visit to the "bar" and the first for our friend. We started, of course, with the french fry plate. Those lemons are mighty refreshing! I had the tagliatelle, and my husband and friend both had the lamb. MMMMHHHH....
And then came the thunder and lightning, which could not put a damper on our enjoyment of those wonderful cookies and caramels, topped off with the perfect cuppa coffee.
I really wish we could get out more often; being house poor SUCKS!
(OH and that soup...all I saw in Nadya's bowl when I walked by were bright green remnants in a bowl that looked as if it had been licked clean!)
edited to add: And CONGRATS ON YOUR NEWLY ACQUIRED VENTWORM STATUS!

supposed to be going to Palena tonite, if all goes according to plan...
-
-
It's quiet. Too quiet.
How 'bout Nats tickets for tonite? My company has 2 tickets, good seats I'm told, and the person who "won" them cannot go...nor can anyone else in my office. I hate to just let them go to waste so Al or anyone, PM me if interested and I can arrange to get them to you. (I work downtown) Terri

I happened to be on the phone with them today and asked about Mondays. Cafe is open with an expanded menu - although the full kitchen is not open, disallowing ordering a la carte from the full restuarant menu.
Thanks, that's great! I think my husband can now be convinced that they'll be open

bump
"According to the website, Palena is not open Sundays and Mondays."
Planning a trip to the cafe on Monday (D-Day) and while I know the restaurant is not open on Mondays, and since my hubby emailed me this quote from the website, and since the last encounter I recall is that they were closed for a cleaning on a Monday...well, you get the drift.
Anyone been in the past few weeks?

Tom was pretty harsh on Old Homestead in the normally boosterish Weekly Dish - looks like they may need to hire some more paparazzi. It certainly didn't read as if it's even going to warrant a full review anytime soon.
-
Just wanted to bump this up. Anybody going to the Grill tomorrow? I have to stoke up because I have to be at a meeting downtown at 4 pm tomorrow and am need of people who care, and want to talk about, food.
I may take my favorite fella (Craig) with me, but we would be very glad to say "HI" to any of you.
I haven't seen a schedule for this week yet--will they be grilling Wed?

Tried to stop by the new TJ's in SS on Friday. What a madhouse! Lines at registers 15+ people deep. Selection looks broader than elsewhere as would be expected due to larger size. Will try again this week.
Stopped by briefly on Saturday, and there was a good amount of people checking it out, but not nearly as crowded as what you saw Friday. Store looks great; I was really pleased to see how large it is, but did not get to peruse all the aisles since we were on our way to do errands and had just bought a bunch of stuff at the Gaithersburg TJ's on Friday. I was very glad to see they have large tubs of the Total greek yogurt, in both the 0% and lowfat varieties.
Off topic, Chico's, on the otherhand, had two lines 5+ deep and I could barely get in the door to take a peek!
-
Yes, I believe someone at the Gaithersburg store told my Dad May 28th--I remember that now, since it's also his Bday! (Hard to believe the weekend after this one is already Memorial Day weekend )
-
I heard the one on Colesville Rd, north of Four Corners, is supposed to be opening either this coming weekend or next...SWEET!
-
Don't forget the camera--those of us who can't attend would love to see the pics!
-
That must've been the second time I stopped in---the first time there was no line, so I went around the corner to fix my glasses. Then someone in my office called and asked if I could pick up a couple of hot dogs, so I thought I'd poke my head in to see if I could see anyone--
Maybe next time!

As best I can strain my neck when driving by, it looks like it may be open? I'll try to swing by soon, and if not, let me know if you get there first.
