Word has arrived via @crackers that our own @Joe H passed away in early September after a brief illness.  No further details are available.

On this Board, Joe’s appetites and resultant opinions were legendary, particularly regarding Michelin-starred restaurants (often facilitated by his highly unusual vocation), strict adherence to risotto recipes as written, and for big, chewy, mouth-coating bottles of Amarone.  Those threads are worth revisiting in his memory.

This sucks! A first class gentleman if there ever was one.

  2. If you had time to wait 15 minutes for a burger, and contemplate sitting longer and working on a WiFi connection, surely you had time to return your burger to the counter and ask for a new once since yours was overcooked?

And given how crowded the locations are, I don't *want* them to get WiFi - encouraging people to sit longer is exactly what I don't want in Bethesda and Potomac.

    No comment on this one

    Go Heat!!!!

  3. DO NOT MIX.

The 2009 benaza Godello is undrinkable.

I've been to the wineries in Valdeorras, and know for a fact that some of them make special "American cuvées" in new oak for export only.

This is like dumping Karo molasses on a piece of ama-ebi sashimi.

Weird... That dosen't sound like a Jose Pastor wine to me. I had the 2008 a couple of times and really enjoyed it.

  4. I went out to nice places a lot before I turned thirty, and never once did I feel like I was subjected to age discrimination.

Funny...I was just looking at the IALW thread and saw this....

The overarching problem of the evening was the feeling that the wait staff – especially our head waiter – treated us as if we had never been to a restaurant before. It doesn’t come through as much in the description, but it was a general feeling that both Jlock and I felt throughout the evening. Something in the tone, and the way that the waiter would quickly leave as soon as we expressed interest in what he was saying. Also, the pacing was off for the entire evening. We felt rushed during each course. There was no need for this: We had an 8:45 reservation, and we obviously had no where else to be.

I have spent a lot of time thinking about why that was: Was it our age (ok, we aren’t that young, but we were the youngest in the room by far)? Was it our crappy car (our sensible Honda Civic)? Was it the crappy way that I dress (Jlock and I are not usually looking “fresh from the runway in Paris”)? Was it that I was paying (partially) with a gift certificate? Was it because we told them that we were here for a special occasion (anniversary)? After much contemplation and consideration of the conversations overheard at nearby tables, I realized that it was likely none of these things. When you sit down at the Inn, you should be ready for a canned play of “good service” that you are not to question because they must know better than you – they work at the Inn after all. Best if you don’t ask any questions – because the answers might not be in the script. In my opinion, dinner at the Inn is just a dress-up show designed to introduce Olive Garden customers to fine dining.

  5. My Gawd....get thee to PassionFish. At its best, Kinkead's was never what PassionFish is. This is our seafood temple, and Jeff Tunks 'gets it'....

I've been in Washington for some three decades. Originally I had to go to Crisfield's to get good seafood. Then there was Vincenzo, near Adams Morgan, with its unique dishing of Italian seafood. Then there was Kinkaid's with all of Bob's surliness, but the run was relatively brief. The staff adds absolutely nothing to the experience. Nothing now compares to PassionFish and we are fortunate to be in its presence. You would even be hard-pressed to find better sushi, let alone seafood.

Well....Did you know that my son plays T-ball with Bob Kinkead's son and I happen to think that Kinkead's blows PassionFish away.

  6. Founders KBS has arrived, although in very very limited quantities. Dave at Rodman's just got two cases of it. He is selling individual 12oz bottles for $5.99 a pop. I bought eight of them, so hurry up before it is all gone.

  7. One of the guys can't eat a burger because he's obese and has elevated cholesterol. He got that way presumably because he's too lazy to work-out and overindulges. I find him repulsive.

Ha Ha, that is Jason Perlow. Be careful what you say as he has an account here. I also recall that several people on this board received slaps on the wrists a few years back for comparing his head to a basketball and talking about how visually undesirable he was....
