I wonder if they have a secret, off-menu, ordering protocol - like you can order "level 2 heat" combined with "level 4 spices."

I don't think that would be possible -- the spice mixes are each in a big shaker or something like that, so level 2 is level 2, code red is code red, etc. Now maybe you could order a sando with half level two, half code red. That might be worth a try if they'd let you.

On my last visit I dropped down considerably from Code Blue to Level 2 and still found Level 2 to be quite hot. Same delicious, massive, juicy breast.

Lupo has a few 2 tops outside so we ate indoors early.  They did a good job of spacing the tables.  The pastas were al dente, the rapini was garlicky, not fancy but well executed.

We stayed at Hotel Rehoboth, where Lupo is housed.  Very nicely furnished but the windows are not sound proof at all.  Bring ear plugs if you plan on staying here.

Glad to hear Lupo is still good. During our recent visit to RB, our Sodel choice was Matt's Fish Camp in Lewes. Here is what I wrote on Yelp:

    4/5 stars
    9/8/2020

Really enjoyed our dinner from Matt's with one glaring exception: the heirloom tomato salad was just awful. Big random chunks of cottony tomatoes were appealing to neither the eye nor the palate. Everything else was up to Matt's usual standards. Just avoid that salad!

I never really got the concept of a vegan burger.

If I were a vegan, there are many things other than a burger that I would opt for. If I were a burger eater, the last thing on the planet I would want is a vegan burger.

I think the target audience is people who used to eat meat and miss the taste. Can't see who else would want one!

I've ordered from the South Riding location a handful of times, and the results have been very good. If there's a better pizza place in our area (I live near Broadlands), I'd like to know.

Their "personal size" pizza is 16" x 6", btw, and the half is bigger than we will ever need. Wings are great as well.

I'm no expert on Buffalo style pizza, but the tomato sauce is sweeter than most sauces I'm familiar with, and the crust is somewhat similar to focaccia. I personally enjoy the cup and char pepperoni.

Thanks -- we had a zPizza for a while, then Manhattan Pizza bought z and turned the local z into a Manhattan, which is the very definition of mediocre. There's still a z in Gainesville, I think.

This is not a great pizza area. Marco's is fine for takeout. For a destination I guess Mellow Mushroom is our go to. For something a little different, this place in Old Ashburn is good: https://www.chicagospizzatwist.com/home. The twist is Indian flavors.

A bit out of the way but one that we have enjoyed is The Dons in Cascades. https://www.thedonspizza.com/

Most definitely worth a drive is Ciao in Centreville. http://ciao-osteria.com/

If you've lived here for a while, you might remember American Flatbread in Broadlands. Really good, but I think it was ahead of its time. Their frozen pies are available at Harris Teeter. https://americanflatbread.com/

We stop at Red Truck Bakery every time we head out to Shenandoah or other towns out there (it is only a 5-10 minutes detour off the highway) and we always love the cakes. The orange bundt cake and Kentucky bourbon are our two faves. Still good but not faves are the apple cake and triple chocolate cake. The granola is very sticky and good with a nice twist with added coconut. The cookies and other goodies are good but the cakes and pies are why it is worth stopping or going for a trip. Also a few doors down and across the street is a really good small butcher/gourmet foods shop that makes good burgers/sandwiches. I can't recall the name and not sure how they are doing during Covid. Red Truck during Covid is operating pre-orders and has a walk-up window where you can get all of their offerings (no indoor access).

Do they still have the FAUQUIER MOM t-shirt for the ladies? 😜

The Applebee’s is closed, and redevelopment will be starting before too long.  FWIW there is free parking on weekends/evenings in the Kaiser lot, and the City has agreed to preserve some additional parking during construction for the State/Thompson’s/Clare and Dons.

Also, The State is open now for dinner/outdoor free music several nights a week. The set-up is well done and it’s a nice place to find yourself.

Damn -- I'm so old that I used to hang out at Mountain Jack's (the predecessor to Applebees).

This is good to know, however the website now only shows The Gastronaut's Menu and The Good Earth (vegetarian).  I seem to recall from checking the website when we booked a few months back that there were two non-vegetarian options.  I hope that they haven't scaled back to just one non-veg menu with no further options.  We'll have to see.

You may absolutely pick and choose from either tasting menu. I went shortly after the inn re-opened and I don’t believe that the menus have changed since, so the online versions are likely pretty current.

I’ve not done the wine pairings before, and would consider asking the somm to pair a bottle/ half bottle each of red and white wine with your meal instead.

For me the can’t miss dishes on the menus are the lamb carpaccio and the garganelli from the vegetarian menu...

Thanks -- makes sense since the menus have the same price and number of courses. If I had to pick one, it would actually be the vegetarian menu.

Still, it's a leisurely stroll or a one-minute drive from places such as the Foster-Harris house (which aren't exactly cheap, but notably less expensive than the Inn).

I hope you all have a wonderful time, and stay in the town of Washington so you don't need to drive back.

We stayed at the Foster-Harris House a couple years ago, just before the prior owners sold to the current owners. It was great then and apparently is at least as good now. Definitely a possibility!

I'm headed to the Inn for dinner in about two weeks.  It's my first time, and of course I'm looking forward to it.  Any recent reports since the re-opening?  I see the sample menus online, but not sure how current they may be, or how frequently they change.  I'm hoping that we have the ability to mix and match dishes from the two tasting menus.  Most likely planning to do the wine pairings as well.  Feedback, recent reviews, or "can't miss" suggestions are welcome.

Following! We are going soon as well, to celebrate anniversary and Mrs W's new job. First time at IALW after being aware of it for 40 years. About time!

Aldie store was sold three years ago, and totally de-loused. Very nice and clean space now. Brassicas has also been closed for two years - that was the original Middleburg Juice Company store, now merged with Greenheart, and they have stores in Aldie, Leesburg, Vienna, and Middleburg. Believe they have a DC outpost coming soon as well.

Greenheart also has a delivery service! In addition to their wonderful juices, I really like the cold brew with cashewmilk.

If you head through Aldie on Route 50, the Aldie Country Store serves some great pulled bbq chicken and pork sandwiches (carryout only)!

Update: The Aldie Country Store was sold and completely renovated in the past 1-2 years. Nice, airy place with great breakfast foods and donuts (the maple bacon are already famous). Also in Aldie, since goldenticket posted this Brassica's came and went after a nice run but it is now a location of Greenheart Juice Shop (I think the Brassica's guy sells produce to them) and their juices and other concoctions, while far from cheap, are really something. Little Apple Pastry Shop also is still alive and well in Aldie, and the weekend market at Gilbert's Corners is crushing it -- Arno's Pastry, Pit Stop barbecue, the salsa guy, Wegmeyer Farms fresh made donuts, kettle corn, sometimes lobster rolls, sometimes ice cream, sometimes Greenheart is there too. Just a great little group of vendors. Fresh produce in season of course too.

    Yes, there are.

One I've read is that he's lying about having it (presumably so he can emerge in a few days saying what a piece of cake it all was).

And the sarcasm is out in force

On the flip side, some people are saying he is actually much sicker than "mild symptoms" they are admitting to would indicate, in light of his cancelling the one call on his busy schedule today and his failure to call into Fox News.

The one in Chantilly is perfectly adequate.  Some of the non-breakfast food is fine but you are better off sticking to the breakfast food.  The pancakes and sausage are actually quite good.

I think we have done breakfast there all of once.  Usually we do dinner there where the crowds aren't as bad.

If you want Pancakes, and price is no object give them a try,

I concur in Ulrath's description. It's not especially cheap but it's good for a big group that includes picky eaters. Perfectly adequate.
