Meanwhile, I hear from my inside friends that the Trumps and Kushners will cash in, probably with new properties in Tel Aviv and Dubai.

You'd have to have rocks (not Don Rocks) in your head to stay in a hotel in Tel Aviv with POTUS on the side in big letters.

Agree on the sausage.  And they need to get bell peppers as an option.  That being said, Vace remains my favorite pizza night in the city.  My son is seriously worried that they won't have pizza like Vace when we move (they won't - we'll survive).  Gotta love a place this down to earth nearby.

Where are you moving to? Hopefully some place where there is some good pizza, even if a different style.

D.C. location has closed for good, along with Poca Madre. I was just on their website over the weekend and saw that the D.C. location was no longer listed. I was hoping there was an explanation other than this sad news. Taco Bamba may have its detractors, but we loved having a quality taco shop close by. I am really really bummed about this.

Well this just blows. The DC outpost was a perfect location for me and several friends to meet at. Not surprising they've closed since there are probably very few office drones down there now. Actually not probably -- the article says that local offices are at FIVE PERCENT of capacity. FU Covid!

I always went off hours. The only way to save your ears. I did always enjoy the onion strings. They were the best. The only ones better were the onion rings at the long long long gone Adams Morgan New Orleans Cafe. (The one that use to be next to Mixtec, not the one that was down 18th St.)

    Mmmm those onion strings!

  5. Finally made it out here with some bootcamp friends on Saturday. I tried a cider that I wasn't crazy about, but that might be swinging at a pitch out of the strike zone here. The beers are extremely popular. They have pizza and pretzels as well as a rotating group of food trucks. The views down into the Shenandoah Valley are incomparable. Dog and kid friendly too!

NB I found out after I got there that a friend from South Riding is one of the five owners.

Is it Red Truck-level national treasure?

If so, both of these bakeries need to be shouted out just as loudly as Pepe's and Sally's pizza in New Haven (with an overnight stay in Middleburg).

    Show me where I'm wrong?

They are completely different animals. I don't want to see Arno overwhelmed. He does this because he loves it. And he doesn't need the business! So shout away but softly pls.

I've said it on other posts regarding Philadelphia Hoagies, but my go to, twice a month is Primo Hoagies Leesburg . They're a franchise, but they are a Philadelphia franchise. In Philadelphia they often rank high for Best Hoagies in the area...odd from a City that pride itself on every local corner hoagie shop being "the best". I often get the "Primo" which is just Prosciutto, Fresh Mozzarella, roasted red peppers. I add onions, oil, vinegar and balsamic vinegar. All served on a seeded roll. After a bite, you can practically here the neighbors talking about what a great year the Iggles are going to have...

Right near the outlets, thanks! And so kind of them to include the calorie counts. 😱

Bob, we need to take the "LCLC Challenge" (Loudoun County Lemon Cake Challenge) - Red Truck vs. Arno's. There "Arno" losers here.

You won't go wrong at either place! Red Truck is in Fauquier BTW -- both Marshall and the original (smaller) location in Warrenton.

All controversy aside, I read what his tweet said several times, and not only is it not funny, it doesn't make any sense to me. Am I missing something?

Missing nothing. 'Joke' should also be in quotes in the header. But here's a real knee-slapper: Zurn posted on March 27 “China has released the names of the first two people to contract Corona virus,” with “Sum Ting Wong” and “Ho Lee Fuk.”

I like the muffuletta from Central Grocery but I wouldn't even wait more than 10 minutes for one, definitely wouldn't pay $109 for 2.  I can wait until I go back to N.O. for a good muffuletta.

If you like to venture outside the touristy areas, Nor-Joe Imports in Old Metairie makes a very good muff.

I totally agree. I don't care if it is traditional or not (I only eat bialys on occasion), but I like a good amount of the onion mix in the middle of my bialy - because that is what makes it special. I was happy to enjoy some good bagels from Bullfrog Bagel's very popular food truck in Tenleytown (next to City Bikes) over the weekend but disappointed by the bialy which had only a speck (two small bites) of onion mix in the center.

There's an even rarer treat for onion/poppy mix aficionados called an onion pletzel or onion board. Several recipes out there but would love to find a bakery that sells them.

The last ones we bought were from the late Flakowitz Bakery in West Boca Raton, FL, but these recipes show what they should look like.

  12. Trying to get this discussion back to the food. I've been eating bialys for a long. long time (RI had great Jewish bakeries, anyone who had the pleasure of trying "sissel bread' will agree). Anyway, I would agree that bialys often have what could be called a yellowish hue. Not as yellow as an egg bagel, more of a pastel.

In any event, the real key to a good bialy is the amount of chopped onion/poppy seed mix in the middle.

    Bob,

If you're not familiar with Ahso, I recommend you give them a try. They have really stepped up, and are offering a variety of great options. Ramen on Monday, Tacos on Tuesday, BBQ on Friday.

Thanks Reed, yes we tried Ahso for dinner and they definitely deserve our support. I'll see what the family would like to try!

Thought it might give each other ideas based on where and what you're ordering for take-out or delivery.

Total disaster at the usually dependable Blue Ridge Grill in Brambleton yesterday. Somehow they were not prepared for all the people who wanted to get some decent takeout for mothers day. I had to wait in a car line for TWO HOURS and when I finally got my order and went home, not surprisingly there were major screwups. Spoke to one of the managers who apologized and agreed to refund the entire cost but still, the whole ordeal was a major downer on Moms Day.

PS I placed this order at 4:30 for a 6:30 pickup and it was still 100 minutes late!

@Bob Wells, I hope this doesn't freak you out, but I've noticed you commenting in the Grew Up in Rhode Island group on Facebook. Since you use the same name here and on Facebook and I knew about your RI connection I knew it was you. 😁

yep that is me too. Thanks to Donrocks for gently noodging me to use my real name here. 🤣
