Cmmp Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 I am hosting a party at home at the end of June and it would make many people, particularly my husband, very happy to offer tres leches as dessert, or one of the dessert options. Which bakeries, restaurants, or caterers around the area offer the best version? thanks!!
goodeats Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 Hi Cmmp - where are you looking and how far are you willing to travel? There's a little bakery on Lee Hwy near Dominion Hills of Arlington that might make tres leches. I actually Shoppers' version, iirc correctly, but this is at the Falls Church/Seven Corners location.
xdcx Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 La Mexicana Bakery down RT1 in Alexandria makes a really good one.
Cmmp Posted May 24, 2011 Author Posted May 24, 2011 Thanks! FYI - I'm in Alexandria and, while NOVA and DC are easiest, I am willing to travel a bit. Looks like, in the short term, we'll be trying xdcx's suggestion of La Mexicana Bakery 1st. Dominion Hills sounds like it is next. thanks!!
Chef Tom Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 I've heard ours at Food Matters is pretty good too! Just sayin'.
Cmmp Posted May 24, 2011 Author Posted May 24, 2011 I guess that we'll have to test the Food Matters version this weekend.
Escoffier Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 You might also check Los Tios. We had tres leches on Sunday it it was pretty tasty.
lperry Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 The best tres leches in the area will be the one you make yourself. If you aren't committed to buying one, it's a pretty easy cake to make at home.
Cmmp Posted May 25, 2011 Author Posted May 25, 2011 I normally do all my own baking, but we're have an event for 70, mostly catered, and I know there will be many things on my mind on the run-up to the party, hence the purchase.
lperry Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 Cake for 70 is a different story. I hope you find a good one!
