Rep+1 Wanted for Media Dinner - Tomorrow, June 12, 6:30 PM, Downtown

I had a last-minute cancelation, so would someone and a +1 like to go and represent the website for a media event?

Soups, salads, kosher wines, and prosecco will be served. It's not a sit-down event, so you can stay as long as you'd like, 6:30-8:30 PM.

First to PM me gets it.

I have a question: I never did fill this slot. What would it take to get *someone* interested in what amounts to an evening of free food and drink? Yes, you might have to suffer through some crowds, but still - it's a new restaurant, and seems to be quality conscious. I didn't want to put any details here because I didn't want to embarrass the restaurant.

Anyone with opinions ... it would be much appreciated.

I didn't see it until now.  Had I seen it earlier I might have applied for the job if:

a)  The kids didn't have something to do that required me to be there [they did]

b  My wife didn't have any conflicts [she did]

c)  Neither of us were too tired or worn out by thursday night [my wife has had a very rough week at work, so that would have killed it]

d)  We could have gotten there on time [i'm usually done with work around 5, but my wife is more like 6:15, 6:30, 7:00, so that would have probably killed it]

e)  I'm not quite sure what a "media event" is but to my untrained ear, it doesn't sound like my cup of tea. I conjure up images of "get a free vacation if you listen to our 4 hour real estate pitch" events.

Lots of competing interests, already scheduled events, and general tiredness

It would help to know the name and location of the place from the beginning. It's not worth it if the location is inconvenient (downtown can mean a lot of different things) and if I'm not a fan of the type of cuisine (i.e. I'm not a fan of, for example, sushi).

Right. I didn't want to make it sound like I couldn't find an attendee for a new restaurant (it could be construed as a sign of meh), so I was hoping someone would write for details, but nobody did. I guess there wasn't much to do about it except recruit people individually, but I just didn't have the time this week.

In general, I'm going to assume people are interested in representing us at these types of things (I'll always be upfront in private messages in terms of what to expect), so I'll keep posting from time-to-time.

Thanks, Bart and Rieux, for your feedback.

I'd guess most members didn't see the post in time.  I didn't see a tweet on it.  I don't know how many members follow you on twitter but that might have triggered a few people to notice the thread. I don't know how often more active members monitor the event thread, but generally its fairly slow so I glance at it on a few times per week.

Motioning a nearby metro station (if any) might have helped people decide if they wanted to take you up on the offer.
