I like the combination wine shop and tasting room/restaurant concept. However, the expectation at a place like this is that they'll have some interesting wine selections that you might not find everywhere else. Unfortunately the shop bottles and the tasting list here (3oz, 6oz) tend toward fairly common wines, such as E. Guigal Cotes du Rhone (a wine that I like, but...). The kitchen was at one time overseen by Jeff Heineman from Grapeseed, but I'm not sure if that's the case anymore. The food was pretty disappointing, though. The entrees we had were bland: monkfish with a wine-tomato sauce and vegetables and a lamb ragu over corkscrew pasta. The bartender at the Idle Hour, where we stopped afterwards, raved about the place and told us we needed to try it again. To me it was a collection of trendy ideas (small pours, industrial interior, truffle oiled this and that, etc) done poorly. Anyone else been?

Josh's post about La Cuchara in Houston reminds me that Houston's La Cuchara (which means "The Spoon") has nothing whatsoever to do with La Cuchara in Woodberry, a Basque-inspired restaurant run by brothers Ben and Jake Lefenfeld. However, Baltimore residents will be pleased to know that the Lefenfelds will be opening a second, seafood-based restaurant in South Baltimore - Minnow, located in the 2 East Wells Apartment Building: "Restaurateurs behind La Cuchara Opening Seafood Restaurant in South Baltimore" by Sarah Meehan on baltimoresun.com According to Sarah Meehan, Minnow is hoping for a May, 2017 opening, will seat around 130 guests, and will have a Mediterranean-based wine list to match their seafood, which will include high-quality, simple, grilled fish.

A friend is doing some consulting work and staying in a hotel near BWI (Linthicum) and we have graciously agreed to drive up there and meet her for dinner. What's good and close-ish to the airport? I need veg/pescatarian (gf) and gluten free (friend)...yeah, I know, I suck. According to the dining guide, Sushi Sono and Grace Garden seem to be the best food wise. What else should we consider? We are probably not considering driving into Baltimore at this point. The fate of Monday night rests in your hands fellow Rockwellians.
