I'm watching SE1 EP1, "Emissary" - would you tell us about your friend Keith, his website, and what to look for there?
Keith is a professional sci-fi/fantasy author who was done a number of media tie-ins over the years. He's one of the in-house media reviewers for the publishing house Tor. Besides current movies/shows, they contract him to re-review seminal sci-fi shows and movies, such as TOS, TNG, DS9, the Trek movies, etc.
I've known him for more than 25 years. When my first kid was born, Keith named a character after him in the book he was working on at the time, a Spider-Man tie-in novel.
Keith has forgotten more about the Marvel universe than I will ever know.

My daughter was in a couple of shows at the fabulous Venus Theatre, just up C Street from LMM. Whenever I give directions to people, I say, if they're coming from the east, turn right at the cow.

I've been a couple of times, but didn't realize it was the same people from Panda Gourmet. Good stuff.

I was at the game (I have had season tickets for 23 seasons, I'm at ALL the games). It was even crazier live than it was on TV.
P.S. If any member here wants to go to a game, send me a PM. After this weekend both of my kids are away at college, and my wife is happy going to just a few games a year. There are NINE remaining home games between 29-Aug and 21-Oct.
Edited to add: Stadium is gorgeous, and the food is better than it has any right to be.

BTW - Acosta is probably 5'3" with his boots on. The dude is tiny.

I guess Wayne Rooney isn't resting on his laurels. I can't believe Acosta is only 5'3"! What's that sports bra type garment he was wearing under his jersey??
GPS tracker, heart rate monitor, etc. All of the players wear them today, to track their fitness, efficiency, etc. It's all about the data. I'm not sure all of them wear sports bras to hold them, though.

BTW - whoever picked the spot - it was fabulous. Very close to the Beltway; easy for MD, DC, and VA attendees. Large covered pavilion, tons of parking, 3 large grills, and even a stone fireplace if we do spring/fall picnics and weather is cool.

I ended up with matching two metal big tablespoons or smallish serving spoons. I'm happy to return them to the rightful owner, whoever that may be. They're clean now
I think those were part of the traveling supply bag.

10-20 years ago Uncle Julio's was in my kids wheelhouse. Who can resist a huge plate of fajitas. I remember that once a week they had goat leg, Cabrito, which was amazing. I think that ship sailed.
Haven't been in a long time but they recently opened up in Annapolis. Will have to go soon.
Seriously, I think it's been at least 15 years since they had the Cabrito.
When they first opened in the area, it was really good Tex Mex. Now it's just another Tex Mex chain, though I hear that if you go to the Texas locations they're still good.

I'll see if I can get my son to cough up the ceviche recipe he used.

It was great to see so many familiar faces, and meet some new ones as well.
Would love to see a "trip report" from a first-timer or two!

Did you open them and eat the frosting first, or dip them in your milk whole? The originals were my favorite growing up.
We used to dip whole, but prior to DoubleStuf, we'd open up, make our own DoubleStuf, and eat the two outside cookies separately.

The mint ones don't suck, and of course Double Stuf is a gift from the gods, but most of the rest of them are not worth the calories.

The dialogue remains inconsistent, throughout the 5 years. But the storylines are generally excellent, even in the first season. Again, you don't even realize that he's laying long term storylines in these early episodes.
S1 E10 "Believers" is a favorite of mine.
If you want to go down the rabbit hole...

It's looking like I won't be able to get there until 1 or 2. I'm doing my best to change that, but someone else will have to be grill bitch until I get there.
Without the ass-less chaps, being the grill bitch just isn't the same.

FYI - some selected rules for our site:
- Alcohol is allowed under the following rules in the pavilion area: Beer and wine served in plastic cups rather than bottles or cans.
- C&O Canal is a Trash Free Park; be prepared with trash bags to remove any waste as cans are not provided. [everyone bring a trash bag]
- Permission is required to post signs or banners on the roadways. Decorations may be hung in the pavilion provided that only tape is used and it is removed following the event.
- Fires may be built in established or portable grills only. All fires must be extinguished before leaving the park. Do not bring firewood into the park.
- Parking or driving on the grass is not permitted and parking at the pavilion is prohibited. Parking is restricted to designated parking lots and parking may not be reserved.DIRECTIONS FROM THE BELTWAY:
1. Take Exit 41 toward Carderock/Great Falls.
2. Merge onto the Clara Barton Pkwy and continue 1 mile to the Carderock exit (on the right is the David Taylor Model Basin 9500 MacArthur Blvd West Bethesda, MD 20817
3. Take the Carderock exit and at the stop sign, turn left to cross over the Clara Barton Pkwy. Follow the road until you reach a second stop sign.
4. Turn left for parking lot "A" or turn right for parking lot "B" and the restrooms. (The pavilion is located between the two parking lots.) [from DanielK - Lot A is a lot closer to the pavilion]- 1

I think waiting in line is sort of its own social event - think of all the midnight video game and book releases, Black Friday, and camping out for concert tickets - none of that stuff can possibly be worth it just to actually obtain the end products. You know you're getting old when you look upon lines like these with scorn.
Or we hated that shit so much that we invented web shopping so we didn't have to do it again.

I will give the Rockville location a try. I would love to try a well-executed version of the dry fried eggplant.
We only go to the Rockville location, and this dish is SPOT ON every time.

Just a reminder to all to please fill out the Google Sheet for attendance tracking and to make sure we have things covered:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1BnuMmbS3ob0G1EmJnFKJJB4aoly5jllBBjJH67Tg8XE/edit?usp=sharing
Right now, other than MOAR FOOD, we definitely need plates and BOOZY BEVERAGES.
Also, don't forget to bring some empty tupperware for taking home leftovers, and please allow some time to help with cleanup at the end.
See you all on Sunday!

Also, the show takes time to hit its stride. Be patient. But I swear to you that throwaway scenes from the first few episodes come back to you, SEASONS later.

The quality is still there. We go every few months. Though I have been told that Urban Hot Pot on Rockville Pike might even be better.
-
About 10 days out - time for everyone to post links on social media to this topic, and encourage your friend networks to join the board and the picnic. Excited to see you all!

That's a tough draw for my Spurs. At least we spanked ManU at Old Trafford on Monday!
