My current favorite is Chef Feliciano in Springfield. It's only open for lunch, but he serves a very good rendition of a very good sandwich.
Am I misreading (or is it a typo) that they put mayo on the sandwich?

Has anyone tried the one at Big Buns lately? I had it many years ago, and it was the best I'd yet found.
Josh liked the version at Cuban Corner; Daniel likes the version at Mi Cuba. I haven't had either of these.
I haven't been to Big Buns since I worked in Ballston, and that was long enough ago that my lunch was Big Buns or Pupatella TRUCK. Big Buns only won when the truck wasn't there.
It's only about 10 minutes drive from where I work now (7 Corners), so I'll give it a shot some day.
My money is still on Mi Cuba.

8/4 is too soon.
I agree with avoiding Labor Day weekend.
10/20 is fine with me, but I think any later than that and we risk non-picnic weather. I think we should either coalesce around that date, or book now for something in the Spring.

I think October 13th is perfect.

I will chime in that the July date is too soon, we have traditionally done Sunday to allow our industry peeps to attend, and from a weather perspective, IMO September would be preferable to August.

Full menu still available? Trying to arrive tonight right as doors open, for one last dinner.
It was on Monday. Note that while doors officially open at 5:30p, they have been opening doors at 5p.

Yesterday, the US Women's Soccer team scored 13 goals against Thailand in their opening match at the World Cup.
In the last four World Cup tournaments, the US Men's team has scored a COMBINED total of 12 goals.

FYI - click through from the Eater story to the AP wire story - the damning details are there.

Seems to me like they had a number of chances to make this right, including settling, and going to court is a mistake. Even if they win, the publicity is going to suck.

In Rockville, we've been going to Urban Hot Pot and Hot Pot Legend. Riverside fell behind them in quality, IMO.

DC Spurs normally watches matches at the Irish Channel. Knowing how packed it will be tomorrow, the MoCo annex will be at Caddies in Bethesda. If anyone wants to join us to watch the final tomorrow, drop me a line or just show up!

We landed up at Bastille, and it was perfect. She was able to order a nice salad with grilled salmon, and the only substitution she needed was to remove the croutons.

Go to Qdoba at the airport and get a veggie burrito.
I'm sure you're just trolling me at this point, since there's absolutely nothing on that menu that she can order.

I never thought I'd recommend William Jeffreys Tavern, but that may be what you're looking for (I think it's just awful, but it is "plain"). Taqueria El Poblano (the one on Columbia Pike) is probably a better bet - you can just head north after lunch, and zip onto I-395 towards the airport (beware of the "Merge from Hell"). You can also see the Air Force Memorial if you have 5-10 extra minutes - just drive in, park, see it, and leave (it's worth the stop).
The Tavern is just the kind of restaurant that should work - until you carefully read the menu. Meats are almost all marinated. Side veggies are sauteed in onions, garlic, shallots, etc. Even salads have ingredients she has to ask not to be included. We could probably make it work, but it's *work*. Mexican is almost uniformly out, again because of marinated meats and onions in everything.
I threw Rustico and Bastille by her, and will see what she says.

Trying to rack my brain, the only thing I can think of would be Kabob palace, but their sides don't strike me as ones she could eat.
They marinate all of their meats, too.

Can she do BBQ? There's Epic Smokehouse in Crystal City and Mixon's BBQ in Old Town
I don't think so, because rubs/sauces are likely to have garlic, and the sides are all out.

Taking a cousin to lunch tomorrow. She has a mid-afternoon flight out of DCA, so need something in Arlington/Alexandria/etc. - maybe within 10-15 minute drive from the airport?
She has some odd medical dietary restrictions that are similar to a low-FODMAP diet. So she can have plain grilled/seasoned proteins and vegetables, but nothing marinated, no garlic/onions, no starches. For that reason, she has to avoid a lot of "ethnic" foods. She eats at a lot of steak/burger places when she eats out, or orders a salad; last night we had Greek at Kellari Taverna, and that was perfect.
I'd love to take her to Jaleo, but I don't think she can navigate that menu. I know there's a Ted's Montana, Good Stuff, Legal, and McCormick & Schmick's right there, but was hoping for something more interesting.
Any good ideas?

Unless the Spurs do something Spursy and give away their 9 goal differential on Sunday.
Given that we didn't have a stadium for more than half the season, barely had Kane for half the season, and didn't touch the last 2 transfer windows, I'm pretty satisfied with CL next season and CL semis this season. As banged up as we are, and without Kane, I don't see us getting through Ajax tomorrow, though I'll be over the moon if we do.
