  1. They do have a valet, and it's free if you remember to get your ticket stamped at Corduroy. When I went last night at 6, there was no sign and no attendant floating around. I had to double park and stick my head inside the Four Points garage (I saw a door there, and lo and behold there was an attendant!) He took care of the car and I ran upstairs for the food. More on that later, but If you like blackberries, I think Power hit the blackberry jackpot, so the blueberry tart was instead a blackberry tart. Um, scrumptious, but ask what ice cream comes with it (the vanilla wasn't ready so they were going to serve pistachio with it). I almost wished I had ordered that instead of the kit kats. Almost...
  2. FWIW, I wore a skirt and heels. Most of the men seemed to be wearing button down shirts and the occasional polo. Women were in a mix of skirts and summer dresses. I have to jump into the appetizer frey and vote for the roasted tomato soup. They had it on Friday night after something else was "unavailable", heh. My date, who got the mozarella porcupine, was jealous of my soup. You should do my plan which is to attend Corduroy twice during RW and try what you couldn't order last time This was my first time at Corduroy and third restaurant during RW, and every single expectation was met at Corduroy. From the tomato soup to the lamb to the blueberry tart, guh, it was fabulous. My date was equally impressed and thorougly pleased with Corduroy, and more than once during the meal, said "THIS was the meal I was expecting when you started telling me about RW". (We had an OK meal at Vidalia earlier in the week.) I'll be going again tomorrow with my girlfriends, so it will be another struggle to decide on an appetizer and main course. Dessert will be the kit kat bars I passed on last time! Thanks for everyone's continued reviews of Corduroy. I'll be a fan for a long long time now
  3. LOL, *ducks and hides*, I'm off to Takoma on Sunday to get what's in season for both pie and sorbet, so many thanks for all the tips and ideas And I wholeheartedly agree with you- Sorbet is best on the first day. Always a good excuse to have people over!
  4. Any flavors this works particularly well with then? If peaches are at Takoma on Sunday, I'm going to try and figure out a good peach sorbet recipe.
  5. Thanks for the info! I do predict a lemon-vodka sorbet in my future... I think the thing that impressed me most about Palen's grapefruit sorbet wasn't the texture (which was great) but the flavor- very bright grapefruit flavor that was fairly tart, which is now sounding like a tough task to follow. Oh well, I'll just have to go to Palena again
  6. Hi all, I thought some of you on this board might be closet sorbet making freaks. (Not that there's anything wrong with loving sorbet!) Since I recently absconded with my dad's ice cream maker, I'm having fun taking a stab at sorbet. I've made some good lemon sorbet, and blueberry sorbet before, but it's been a long while and I can't rightly recall how did it A trip to Palena's a few weeks ago and their lovely grapefruit sorbet inspired me to take a stab at it tonight, and the measurements of sugar/water/fruit juice were horribly off. I made something like grapefruit candy sorbet, blech. So does anyone have any helpful tips they'd care to pass along? Do sugars make a difference? Opinions on using egg whites? Recipes on the net seem to be a dime a dozen, but everyone has different ideas with little explanation Help! (Or pointing me in the direction of another good resource would be greatly appreciated.)
  7. Like everyone, I'm trying to decide where to go for RW. I didn't really get to take full advantage during the winter week, so I'm trying to catch up this time round. I'm going to try and hit up a few with friends, and one for a dinner date, which is where I need some guidance! Here's the list of where I'm going to try and get in, so if anyone has some .02 on where a nice place to take a date would be (preferably one that wouldn't require a jacket/tie and where one might be able to have conversation) that would be grand! On the list are: Vidalia Corduroy Bistro Bis Ten Penh Ceiba Butterfield 9 Galileo I'm slowly sorting through past postings on E-Gullet and here to figure out the dress codes, but if anyone can make my life easier, so be it Thanks for any and all .02!
  8. I hope Jason/DC Foodies won't mind me posting this link. The RW website is usually lacking in the important info we want (mostly full menu or slimmed down) and Jason did some serious phone calling last time. Here's hoping it gives everyone an idea of what to expect this time around: http://www.dcfoodies.com/2005/01/restaurant_week.html Last time, Restaurant Eve didn't participate, and yes, some restaurants outside of DC do participate (like Colvin Run Tavern). Some places only do lunch.
