Charleston is certainly one of the top restuarants not only Baltimore, but the Greater Mid Atlantic. Chef Wolf has been at this for over 2 decades. I hope that this year, being that women are kicking up dust, 2019 will be the year for Wolf to be crowned Best Chef Mid-Atlantic.

How does this happen? Chatter. Especially buzz that is generated on a forum like ours. With that being said, I would like personally invite members to join me for dinner at Charleston. I have been in contact with the events person.  What  would be the preference ? Private DR or in the main. The price will be approximately $125/++ per person food only, then a supplement if you opt for wine pairings. I will be planning this to take place in the month of Feb. I'll create a survey to see what day of the week works best, if you can’t make this one, there will be others. Consider this the Inaugural DR. Supper Club. I’d like this do be an intimate group, so I'm gonna cap attendance at 10 ppl/  max.

We used to have great events. No reason we can’t have that again. 2019& moving forward, I’d like to revive the ”In real Time” happenings of this forum. I can’t do this all alone. I’m gonna need help from each & everyone of you.

I'll follow up with deets in the Events forum. I promise these will be fun, and delicious, but best of all, we’ll do what we do best. We will engage, in real time about our dinner. In the new  year,   I hope to revive the  DR dinners.

I have taken steps to reserve Tuesday, 2/26 Dinner at 6:00pm at Charleston.

I am in contact with the private events coordinator, and will be updating details as I have finalized them.  This event will have 8- 10 seats available. I purposely made the number low, on account I want to start the tradition of having small dinner parties where we all may be able to interact. Please check your calendars and see if you may be available to attend.  I have made and entry into the Events Calendar if you would like to RSVP.   I am looking forward to this more than I can adequately express.  Hope some of you may be able to join me!

I'll tell you what: Twice in the past two weeks, I've gotten Crisp & Juicy, Lee Heights Shopping Center in Arlington, and both times it has hit the heights that Crisp & Juicy is capable of hitting. Both of these were as good (and I'm talking about "tastes good") as any chicken I've ever eaten. This location has been largely great in the past, but has also had some inconsistencies; these past two visits were incredible - chicken just does not taste any better than this does. (And the yuca and sauces (pink and yellow) were really good, too.)

I know this is a bold post, but I suggest this: Get a whole chicken and a large order of yuca to go, along with some pink and yellow sauces. Heat them in the oven if necessary, and report back here - the more data points, the better.

The Frederick location distributes green & yellow sauces, and that chicken & papas yucca bang. I would eat cardboard dripped in whatever falls  off those chickens. So delish.

  4. I have been actively doing research on other forums as to be able to tie back into our forum. I know it's been several years since Sex in the City has aired, but certainly has become a draw for ladies nearly everywhere to visit the Big Apple.

Just this morning, Julie Mitcheson of Not for Tourists - A Guide to New York City, posted this:

Are you a Sex and The City fan?

Before I departed home (and after much research) I compiled a list of SATC locations.  I decided against doing a tour (which is something I had always dreamt of) and visited each location without time constraints.  Turned out to be the best decision EVER.    Here's my fave spots:

Carrie's house – 66 Perry Street, btw West 4th and Bleecker.  Note:  Only the exterior and street were used.

New York Public Library – 5th Ave & 42nd St.

Jefferson Market Garden (where Miranda and Steve got married). Greenwich Ave, btw 6th Ave and West 10th St.

Louis K Gallery – Charlottes gallery - 141 Prince Street, Ground Floor.

St Marks Comics – Wade + Carrie – 11 St Marks Place.

Buddakan Chinese – Big and Carrie’s wedding rehearsal dinner – 75 9th Ave.

Magnolia Bakery – Carrie and Miranda eating cupcakes on the bench seat outside – 401 Bleecker Street near West 11th.

Sushi Samba (where Samantha threw a martini into Richard's face) – 7 245 Park Ave South/87th Avenue.

Pete’s Tavern – (the longest running bar in Manhattan)  and where Miranda asks Steve to marry her – 129 East 18th St.

Church of the Transfiguration – Samantha & her priest – 1 East 29th St.

Columbus Circle Fountain – where Carrie & Aidan break up, 59th St and 8th Ave.

The Loeb Boathouse (in Central Park) – where Carrie & Big fall in the water – Park Drive North, near East 72nd street.

    Onieal’s Restaurant – (Steve's Scout Bar) - 174 Grand Street/Mulberry Road.

Manolo Blahnik – 31 West 54th Street, btw 5th & 6th Aves. (Carries fave shoe shop)

Gray’s Papaya – West 8th & 6th Ave – Carries book party where she and her driver get hot dogs.

Tiffany & Co – 200 5th Ave – Charlotte and Trey go ring shopping.

Da Marino Italian Restaurant - where Big sang to Carrie (and in real life Chris Noth part owns the restaurant) - 220 West 49th St, btw Broadway & 8th Ave.

    Enjoy!

I asked for permission to repost, and she happily obliged. I for one am excited to check out several of these locations!

I couldn't find a general thread on party planning, so I decided to start one.  I saw some specific types of parties, but none fit the bill for this one, and I thought a general topic might get posts as many people here do a lot of general hosting.

My specific quest right now: I am hosting a wine and cheese tasting by the Cheese Monster.  I wanted to have some snacks to go with said tasting after the seated tasting/learning session that would go well with cheese and enhance the experience.  But I didn't want things with more cheese, which rules out a lot of my go-to party snacks.  I would prefer the items to be make ahead (although I can also pick up some things).  Things I already have crackers, salami, spinach and artichoke dip.  But I would like to make a few more substantial snacks.

How about an array of pickled veggies, pickled eggs, honeys , whipped butters  and/or  an assortment of quickbreads( both ranging from sweet to savory)

    Kat,

My February is a bit crazy right now on the trial schedule, but could you keep me on the list for the event/other events.  I am certainly interested in attending some if the timing can hit right.

Will do! I'll  list you on spreadsheet of interested  attendants. I will try to have a  wide array of events as well as different price levels. Please chime in on what y'all would like to explore? A slice tour of Manhattan is on the horizon with the infamous Scott Weiner of Scotts Pizza Tour!  Working out the deets to that one as well. I have a bunch of  cool stuff lined up. This is gonna be fun!

  8. CHAIA TACOS DEBUTS IN MOUNT VERNON TRIANGLE

Second Location of DC’s Home-Grown Taco Shop Opens January 8

WASHINGTON, DC (January 8, 2018) -- Chaia Tacos opens the doors to its second location in Washington, DC’s Mount Vernon Triangle on January 8. What was started by Co-founders Bettina Stern and Suzanne Simon as a pop-up stand at local farmers’ markets grew to its first brick and mortar shop in Georgetown; Chaia Tacos now brings its insanely delicious tacos made entirely with seasonal vegetables, homemade salsas and handmade tortillas to a new neighborhood with an expanded menu and house-made cocktails on tap.

Menu highlights include taco favorites like Chaia’s Creamy Kale and Potato with pepperjack, poblano crema, salsa verde, and pickled onion and Braised Mushroom with feta, salsa roja and cilantro, as well as rotating seasonal tacos, such as Roasted Butternut Squash with goat cheese, caramelized onions, chipotle yogurt, and mint, and Citrus-Roasted Beet with ricotta salata, cilantro-lime yogurt and jalapeño.

The new “Beyond Tacos” section of the menu will include offerings like El Bol, which gives diners the opportunity to enjoy taco fillings over grains; Cauliflower Al Pastor with smoky greens, cilantro lime yogurt and beet-pickled egg; and crave-worthy “Sides” like Carrot-Kohlrabi Slaw with sweet and spicy vinaigrette, fresh jalapeños and herbs; and Winter White Soup with potato, fennel and chili oil. To finish, Chaia has partnered with DC-based partners to feature vegan and gluten-free sweets such as a Seven Spice Dark Chocolate Bar made with cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg, pepper, allspice, clove and ginger.

For libations, Chaia will have craft beer, wine, and cocktails on tap such as the Milian Park with bourbon, amaro Montenegro, amargo de chile and bitters along with a winter special, the Apple Shrub Toddy made with hot whiskey, spiced apple shrub and lemon. Non-alcoholic beverages include house-made iced teas such as Green Tea with citrus, marigold and mint; Hot Spiced Café au Lait with oat milk, lavender, cinnamon and cardamom; coffee and nitro cold brew from Vigilante Coffee; Elderberry Kombucha from Wild Kombucha; and a variety of hot teas from Bellocq Tea Atelier.

The Mount Vernon Triangle location is a 2,000 square foot space with 38 seats. The bright, airy space was designed by DC-based Gensler Associates and includes design details such as white oak, handmade bar tiles, and cold-rolled steel. Anchoring the space is a large comal wherein Chaia’s tortillas are hand-pressed and cooked.

Chaia Tacos is located in Mount Vernon Triangle at 615 I Street NW and operates from 11am to 10pm, seven days a week. For more information please visit www.chaiatacos.com or follow on social @chaiatacos.

I'm surprised Nini got the boot since she won 2 consecutive elimination challenges before RW.  But she was a mess as the front of the house.

Of the contestants, only David Viana (Philly) seems to be consistently good.

I was shocked to see Nini voted off the island. Damn shame. I was rooting for her, but I have a hunch she  won't be going leaving the Top Chef posse just quite yet.

in other news, in today's version of 6 degrees of separation, I leaned that my coworker's son works at Laurel on Passyunk Ave, and I plan on making a visit to check out the buzz.

I'm working at the Tysons office today and made it a point to venture up to Stomping Ground for a cuppa. It's a good cuppa and worth the detour from Starbucks. There were already people having lunch at 11:30 and the food looked good (as did the wares at Lady M but those prices -- holy crow!).

The blueberry scones are worth the extra notch on my belt! I did not have a chance to try Lady M, on account I was there very early, but will revisit it the next time I am in town. There are times where a splurge both figuratively, and both literally are on order.
