Agreed that Charlottesville tends to be a different area than Richmond, but we are slowly seeing some Richmond transplants.
Charlottesville even has its own ring of destinations as you leave the area that are not more than an hour out (Dr Ho's, Blue Mountain Brewery, Thai Siam, BBQ Exchange, Bavarian Chef) that can be worth a stop. Who am I kidding. I stop at all of them. Frequently.
I'd also comment that a conversation on Charlottesville food could also include the Saturday morning (in season) City Market. Currently held in a parking lot just south of the downtown mall, there's a mix of local farms, produce as well as food stands with everything from crab cakes, to pancit, to dosas, to a number of folks making breakfast sandwiches with local sausages. There's a local debate on if the tacos at the market are better than those of La Michaocana mentioned above, but I'm a sucker for their fresh tamales.
