porcupine Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 Bakeries, Bread, Confections, Ice Cream and Gelato Like the other maps, the focus is on independents and small, local chains. Suggestions for additional stores and editorial comments welcomed. I left out a lot of cupcake places because I don't think they're any good, but please convince me otherwise. Cold Stone Creamery and the like need not apply.
lperry Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 The Happy Tart in Del Ray on Mount Vernon Avenue is fantastic.
Nervous Eater Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 You should definitely add LeoNora in Clarendon to this list. Thanks for doing this!
porcupine Posted August 7, 2012 Author Posted August 7, 2012 My pleasure. Please, though, if you can provide a sentence or two about what they offer I'd appreciate it!
Nervous Eater Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 LeoNora bakes artisan baguettes, boules, croissaints, brioche, fruit tarts, pain au chocolat, and more. One of my favorite bakeries in the DC area, to be sure. Great prices, as well. Located on the side street next to Liberty Tavern in Clarendon.
saf Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 I would add La Caprice DC. Excellent baguettes and crossiants. And cookies. And sandwiches. 3460 14th St NW http://www.lecapricedc.com/
porcupine Posted August 9, 2012 Author Posted August 9, 2012 ^I'm going to have to try Le Caprice again. The cookies I had were decent but of a type I find really boring: typical European ones that all look different but are fundamentally the same, with little to no butter flavor (mostly shortening). I'm not slamming them so much as trying to suss out my own predjudices likes and dislikes. Does anyone else know what I'm talking about here? I'm not good at judging the quality of something that I don't like, especially when I think I can do better myself in my own kitchen.
