Soup
Stawberries are my favorite berries. I am always looking for a sources for great berries. With the local season coming up (I hope I haven't missed them), I'd love to hear where some of you are scoring some great strawberries.
cjsadler
Some good info here if you are willing to pick your own. Got some outrageously good ones from Homestead farms last year. Due to the dry weather, they were very concentrated and flavorful. Hope they are that good again this year.
Pool Boy
Larriland Farms when I want to pick them. Otherwise there is a great roadside/farm stand on Old Gunpowder Road in Beltsville just off the Powder Mill Road exit off of I-95 north.
Pool Boy
We picked 13 lbs this past weekend. Made strawberry muffins (to die for!), Strawberry torte (in German, Erdbeeren obsttorte), strawberry freezer jam and, of course, strawberries cut up and sugared over shortcake. Delicious! monavano
I made a delicious salad recently, combining strawberries, gorgonzola dolce and candied pecan. After watching Top Chef last week, and seeing Stephanie's gorgonzola cheesecake with a concord grape sauce, I was inspired to combine fruit and cheese in a dessert. I made a sauce with pinot noir and strawberries and put it over a gorgonzola souffle. It was really delicious, and surprisingly easy.
lperry
I stopped in Shoppers at Potomac Yards today, walked right past the strawberry display, then turned around because the aroma was fantastic. These are the first Plant City berries I've seen this year, and these are good quality and still quite fresh. I've tried just one, and they aren't the tiny, home-grown, ultra-flavorful ones, but they are pretty good, and they beat the heck out of those giant, red bags of water that usually show up in the big markets. A nice treat to help pretend it's not winter out.
