DonRocks Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 Click here for my post from five years ago. I'm not hearing much about the Northern Snakehead these days - what's their status in the Potomac River? If they're still dominating the waters, why aren't they showing up at restaurants? Can we not overfish and eat them back into non-existence, or are they not so easily snagged? Where's the press been on this issue? Cheers, Rocks.
JimRice Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 Don, I've actually taken my kayak back into Little Hunting Creek in pursuit of the snakehead, but I haven't caught any yet. Here's an article on a local guide who took up bass/snakehead guiding. Potomac Fever Anyway, it's getting warm enough to get the kayak out again. If I catch one, I'll invite you for dinner. Jim Edit: Here's the guide's website.
comestibles Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 They are apparently thriving around here. There was a short news segment on snakeheads on Fox 5 TV earlier today. A fisherman caught a big one in Fort Washington a few days ago. http://www.myfoxdc.com/dpp/news/local/0423...ead_fish_threat
SeanMike Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Since we're keeping the other thread just to restaurants, I thought I'd quote a friend on Twitter last night: Folks, snakehead is delicious. There is no reason we shouldn't be eating this fish into extinction (after his trip to Dino)
Fishinnards Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 This fish is super popular in Thailand. It's called pla chon ปลาช่อน. Here's one way to cook it. You can also get it pickled. I have a jar in my fridge.
