Anyone know where I can get fresh lemongrass in the District? I didn't expect it to be so hard to find, but so far I've struck out at Giant, Safeway, and Whole Foods.

Which WFM? Every time I've needed some and shopped at the Georgetown/Glover Park location, it's been there.

It's usually available in asian markets or at El Grande Supermercado. Got a couple spots out here in the 'burbs..

At Whole Foods, if it isn't sold loose in produce, you can often find it in those little plastic box doohickeys that they sell various herbage in.

I last saw some pre-packaged lemon grass packets (like the ones Al Dente described) sold in the refrigerated section next to the vegetarian options in the produce section at HT. Not quite the freshest, but good in a pinch.... Otherwise, if a trek can be made out to Falls Church, Dungrat's little market stocks them in the refrigerated section.

Wegman's generally has it. If not, I'm sure a trip to Chinatown would probably bear some fruit.
