There may be different rules for pool halls -- I've brought food into both Bedrock and Atomic from nearby establishments. Neither is a dive (to stay on topic) but both are considerably less corporate than Buffalo Billiards. And on Sundays at Atomic, pool's free for the ladies, so eat at Dino and then rack 'em up. Jael

For those of you who don't follow pocket billiards, the great Filipino "Magician," Efren Reyes, is as good as it gets.

If you have never been here, it is worth the trip. Cozy, dimmed lights, limited seating, very French country ambiance...and if you don't know WHERE it is, you'll miss it. This was my impression. I've been to Adams Morgan a thousand times and have passed right by this little gem of a restaurant. I loved how it all comes together. But specifically, a dish to note: Duck Breast served with Mushroom Risotto and a cherry/port wine sauce . Now, I am a big fan of duck.... duck pate, duck confit, you name it. And so many times when I order it out in restaurants, its either too dry or too crispy. I'm not a crispy duck fan. This Duck Breast was very tender, juicy and cooked "just right" - medium to medium rare . The sauce really added to the taste of the dish - sweetening the experience, literally.. It was also half price bottle of wine night - so that always makes everything right. Go for the Duck!

I need an answer in the next two hours if possible! (I'll move this into Help Needed later today.) Does anyone know how the pool tables - the actual pool tables themselves - at Continental in Rosslyn are these days? And would anyone happen to know where the best tables are in DC? Bedrock Billiards? Has anyone been to the place that replaced Champion Billiards in Shirlington? I'm essentially looking for the best place to play serious pool in DC or the close-in suburbs - any ideas much appreciated. Food is not important; it would be nice to have a beer, but it's not essential. The Marine Corps Marathon (with its corresponding street closures) is putting a crimp in my 9-ball game. --- Bedrock Billiards (frogprice)

I have some good news for a certain subset of people who: 1) live in Arlington 2) play 9-ball with an Heubler pool cue 3) have a grip made of custom Irish linen Chester's Billiard's Bar & Grill is opening in Shirlington, technically in the former Lucy's space, but for billiards players, actually in the former Champion's space.

It's a bit sad to me, but Champion Billiards, where I've shot many a game of nine-ball over the years (with my custom cue wrapped in Irish linen) closed awhile back, and has reopened as "Lucy's ARL" under new proprietors - they have a slightly more ambitious menu, and a pretty funny website. I hope they do well here - Champion was a pool-shooter's pool hall in many ways, and I look forward to trying them out. Cheers, Rocks
