Jeff Heineman
I need to get an opera cake for a party on Sunday. Anyone know where, preferably on the Maryland side of the river, I can get a good one. She had the one from Praline at a different party last week, and it wasn't so hot. And Toute de Suite is currently closed thanks
goodeats
So, the only two I could find were on the Virginia side of the river: Pastries by Randolph in Arlington (I would call, since their link shows only petite pastry size) and Amphora Bakery in Vienna. I could have sworn Stella's Bakery sold one, but couldn't find it on their site. In DC, only Patisserie Poupon came to mind. (Opera cake was one of the order options under "cake" link of their menu). Hope this helps!

I've always gone with Poupon. If you ask nicely, I'll get one (if they have it) and bring it by Grapeseed.

Jeff Heineman
A friend got one from Bread and Chocolate (in Takoma Park, I think). it was pretty nice, a few layers short but pretty well made all around, and the people who had eaten the one from Praline declared it superior to Praline's effort. However, the fact that they for some reason wrote "Salutations, happy Birthday Betty" on it almost made me think I was on the verge of sending a photo to Cakewrecks website.
