DanCole42 Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 So I'm turning 30 soon. My birthday is always a big event for me, so the big 3-0 should be even bigger. What should I do that will blow my mind? Chef's tables, places to rent out, amazing experiences, classes, foods to try, chefs to sleep with... ANYTHING. Sky's the limit. Let your imagination run wild. This is a brainstorm session. You have until February 2nd to submit your ideas. All entrants receive free visibility in this thread. The winner will have my gratitude.
porcupine Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 Ask a chef to create a tasting menu just for you. Just today I finalized arrangements for a surprise dinner for someone at a certain restaurant that has a tasting menu; that night our table will be served a meal featuring the guest of honor's favorite food in every course. I'd tell you more but the dinner hasn't happened yet and I don't want word to get 'round to my husband the guest of honor. PM me if you want details; the restaurant has been very accommodating.

synaesthesia Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 Yeah. My dream would be to go to Alinea and have a birthday menu. I've seen postings where he's catered the number of courses to the age of the person. 30 wacky, crazy courses. That could be SO fun.
porcupine Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 Thinking about this more, I'd bet that any of the local chefs who have a seasonal/local bent and frequently changing menu would be willing to cook a special meal. Has anyone else out there ever tried something like this?
Waitman Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 Just go to Proof and get the regular food, a $200 White Burgundy and a $500 Cabernet. Don't let the food fuck with the wine; it's just background (though, at Proof, tasty).

Hey porcupine, I tried to PM you as well but your mailbox must be full. Care to share the details of the restaurant that does this? A PM is fine.
