Yet another lovely independent business in Brooklyn.

Gorilla Coffee is a corner coffee shop and roaster in Park Slope. The handful of red topped tables evoke 1950s/60s era diner. An old guy wearing a fedora behind the bar is taking orders, a young hipstery Asian woman is making coffee. Cafe au lait and an almond pastry to go please.

oh, yeah, the Gorilla art is great too.

Your story warmed my heart. However, six years ago, it wasn't quite so rosy:

Apr 11, 2010 - "Gorilla Coffee Workers Aren't Coming Back" by Oliver Strand on dinersjournal.blogs.nytimes.com

But then:

Apr 27, 2010: - "Brewing Coffee Again After A Barista Walkout" by Diane Cardwell on nytimes.com

So it sounds like the owners either fixed what was wrong, or this was a he-said/she-said situation, and we may never know without some serious digging. I'd say that, at the minimum, there was probably a lack of communication between owners and staff for this to have happened so abruptly.
