Hey now, Pain Perdu is made with stale bread. Okay, in theory, it's made with stale bread.

I distinctly remember the first time I ever had Pain Perdu - it was at L'Amandier de Mougins, a spinoff of Le Moulin de Mougins (sort of like how Central (*) was an offshoot of Citronelle). That entire meal was wonderful, and spent with a delightful group of people - thanks for conjuring up that forgotten memory. I know for a fact this was the first time I ever tried it, because I was still learning French, saw the menu, and exclaimed to my tablemates (in my roadside French), "What is *lost* bread?" As an aside, I sent some very special out-of-town guests to Central just last night, and the feedback is that it was mixed.
