Tweaked
Looks to be in the very early stages of development, and they are still looking for a lease. They are have a competition for designing the restaurant logo. PoP with the news. "Chef Deth & Chef Seng are combining forces to launch Khao Poon, DC's first Lao Noodle House. They're going to kick off the effort with some pop-up events at different locations as they lead up to securing the new restaurant's permanent location. Khao Poon will offer a unique culinary experience featuring noodle dishes inspired by traditional Lao cuisine as well as that of the surrounding countries." DonRocks
Khao Poon had been working as a pop-up at Union Market, but that's now finished (see their Twitter feed @khaopoondc). It has been just sitting there at the bottom of the Dining Guide without a place to call home - does anyone know what the next steps will be? Tweaked
Now running as a Tuesday night pop up at Thip Khao. Per Washingtonian: "The Khao Poon noodle pop-up has moved from Union Market, and now offers regular weekly dinners at Thip Khao. Head to the Columbia Heights restaurant on Tuesdays from 5 to 9 pm, where chef Deth Khaiaphone prepares a variety of small plates, desserts, and Lao noodle bowls. Early favorites include vermicelli with green curry and shrimp, and homemade tapioca rice noodles in a clear broth with chicken and herbs." DonRocks
Just to complete this circuit, the pop-up Khao Poon was absorbed into Thip Khao, and may or may not still exist in the form of a Tuesday "Khao Poon Night" (the term "Khao Poon" is a type of Laotian rice-noodle soup, and is an item on Thap Khao's everyday menu). As a separate entity, the pop-up Khao Poon no longer exists in Union Market, and there's nothing about it on Thip Khao's website. If anyone has any additional information, please let us know, but for the purposes of being a standalone thread, Khao Poon is currently marked as Closed.
