Uggg. So depressing, it's really sad to see what is happening to our meat, growing up on a beef farm and knowing what my cows ate, knowing what the farms we traded animals with ate, knowing what went on our crops, in our garden. And this means so many farmers are going to be forced to feed their cattle this stuff, even if they really don't want to. And what it does for our soil. I know so many people don't notice any of this, and I understand why, it's just a little sad.

Farming is so dangerous anyway, we really shouldn't be poisoning our farm workers too, but I guess since most are migrant workers, most people really don't care.

Whole Foods Market sat on the sidelines in the prop 37 fight until just before the election when they gave a half hearted effort. WHy? Because a lit of the top partner brands shows that they are all owned by big ag companies that support Monsanto. Whole Foods is in no way a leader on the GMO issue. Their employees lie about GMO's in the food at WFM. Only now, when Prop 37's defeat has led state after state to start the process to require labeling of GMO's has Whole Foods caught the religion and in 5 year, read that again, 5 years will require labeling. They could ask all suppliers to sign affidavits RIGHT NOW and those who don't could be labeled as suck. It could be done in a matter of months. But this is just more of Whole Foods greenwashing. Whole Foods, when it comes to organics, is just Walmart with higher prices. Do not go to Whole Foods thinking you are doing something to protect the environment as producer after producer that they partner with are either directly bad for the environment or owned by someone who is.

There's an app for that! Or at least one that will let you know if Monsanto (or the Koch brothers) will be getting a piece of the money you are spending:

http://www.forbes.com/sites/clareoconnor/2013/05/14/new-app-lets-you-boycott-koch-brothers-monsanto-and-more-by-scanning-your-shopping-cart/

Short excerpt:

You can scan the barcode on any product and the free app will trace its ownership all the way to its top corporate parent company, including conglomerates like Koch Industries.

Even more impressively, you can join user-created campaigns to boycott business practices that violate your principles rather than single companies. One of these campaigns, Demand GMO Labeling, will scan your box of cereal and tell you if it was made by one of the 36 corporations that donated more than $150,000 to oppose the mandatory labeling of genetically modified food.
