  1. Hmmm, I walk by that place twice daily and the sign is so putting off because it's run down looking that I've never stopped in or had delivery. The chinese food across the street is equally slopped boring filler chinese food. The indian places as well across the street, and I've really wanted to like them but they just don't seem to care about quality. My roommate ate a Mr. Chen's now I recall and was just whelmed, nothing exciting to report.
  2. I haven't found a whole lot of places that serve mussels that can compete with their curry/coconut sauce and baked brie to match. Lovely little lunch time escape meal and not too pricey. Their steaks, ehh kinda normal. Service even at the bar can sometimes be spotty with quickness and attentiveness. Wonderful beer selection, a real power lunch place and happy hour is quite good. Don't go during the off hours and you'll have a wonderful meal.
  3. Here's a list of DC Happy Hour's with food specials. You can sort through which one's are restaurants and which one's are bars. DC HAPPY HOURS
  4. I'm loving all of the input. We all have different tastes, but a macerated mint simple Syrup sounds like a wonderful idea. Please post a recipe soon. Now to find a Mint bush/plant in full force, they only sell the small starter one's so far as I can tell around here.
  5. Trying to concoct that perfect Mojito for the Beach trip I'm taking soon. What better way than to visit my neighborhood mojito making establishments in Adams Morgan for a little homework and ideas. Habanna Village, Basso, Rhumba, Grill from Impanema......I really love my neighborhood by the way. Oh and good old Google. Classic Way: Sugar or simple syrup Lime Juice Mint Mull Cubed ice or crushed Light Rum + Soda water Finally Sprig of mint and Cane of sugar Options: Limeade: With Limeade concentrate + Limes and Lime Juice and a little sugar. I've found this way enables you to have a sweeter Mojito and easier to make at a party. As long as you get the Mint stems mulled right it's d@mn good, plus prevents scurvy! Sugar: Try with Dark brown sugar, possibly with dark rum as well to give it a murky green goodness. Drink in dark room, with dark chocolate perhaps? I've heard it called a "dirty Mojito" Hemingway: Instead of Soda water substitute with Champagne, Ok I'll call it sparkling white wine you snob. Bitters: Add a splash of Angostura to add zing to it. Blueberries: Muddle instead a lime or lime juice, but Blueberries. Garnish with. This will freak out all Cubans I swear.
  6. Hey guys, posting again about this date place. Went to Mon Ami Gaby in Bethesda on a real first date. Service was quick and responsive, I ordered mussles with white wine sauce and the cheese plate, she the steak and frites. 2002 Bordeaux to match her steak since I couldn't agree on a Burgundy. The place is huge inside and we didn't feel rushed through the meal. Great decision after some input from friends. Some other places they reccomended in Bethesda: -Divino Lounge, argentine meat place on Wisconsin av and East-West Highway (going towards downtown), in front of the hotel. -Levante's -Olazzo if you don't mind crowded seating.
  7. If you're in Adams Morgan, Bossa is nice. Lot's of privacy upstairs. Perry's rooftop is nice, not cozy though but still great views on a nice night. On U St. Local 16 or Chi Cha is fun. The bar at the Tabard Inn was good if it's still open(don't know for sure). ESL is good for early or late. Drinks at Dragonfly are nice on weeknights. I'm drawing a blank here, there's many more I can't think of.
  8. Apparently the HT will be built and then they will finish the traffic study for the area. A lot of new ideas are being thrown out there, some making streets one way, others (which is my favorite) is making 18th St. between Columbia and Florida accessable to foot traffic only! Can you imagine that whole strip just full of food & novelty vendors & people, no taxi's parked in the middle of the road running people over? I personally am getting tired of the Safeway and Whole Foods is far away.
  9. This weekend (June 4&5) is a great chance to taste some Virginia Wines at the Vintage Virginia Wine Festival. I'll be there staggering amongst the cab franc and Viognier. Vintage Virginia Web Site
