  1. Uh yeah, didn't mean to offend anyone. I apologize, didn't realize these messages boards were so formal..
  2. Scrambled eggs with maple syrup- havent had since I was a kid. Sugar free red vines, seriously, sometimes they taste like plastic but i am addicted. also frozen pudding, and cool whip straight from the container... Burnt food too. I love the crust of any burnt bread/pizza, but am not a filling person. When I go out to dinner with my mom, I eat the crust of the bread and pass her the rest!
  3. I sadly won't be able to make it tonight. But am down for a Saturday version if anyone else is...
  4. Hmmm.. I actually don't much care for this place. Yes, the food is good, but as an "allergic" consumer (and I know people are thinking why dont you just stay home) I found the lack of understanding between me and the server, and me and the kitchen, disheartening, and rather scary...
  5. So.. is anyone showing up for this? It would be my first Don Rockwell happy hour.. or anything... and first time at Kolumbia too.
  6. It is so important to do your research! I am very careful about what I eat. I am thin and would like to stay that way (one reason why I adore cooking at home- you know what is in your food). But I also have several food allergies, so it is important for me to know what ingredients are used in most things. For example, I have to stay away from most commercially produced salad dressings- even fat-free dressings (soybean oil...why? who knows?). I can't eat anything at Dunkin Donuts. Nada. Even if I felt like gorging on crullers, the thought of the stomach pains alone would turn me away. The most important thing you can do for yourself, in terms of losing and maintaining weight, is to recognize exactly what and how much of it you are putting in your mouth. Most Americans underestimate their daily caloric intake by around 1000 calories- that's almost a day's worth. I'd rather get that from a wonderful cheese plate or extra special dessert than a grande dolce cinnamon latte from Starbucks.
  7. My altar is wine (but in vino veritas, right?). Usually have a glass each night, which is enough to affect me, since I'm petite. But I fear I may be developing a "wine belly" if there is such a thing. Hey Don, I don't want to lose 10% of my body weight, but if I cut down on the wine and vanilla pudding, can I join?
  8. As a former GWU student resigned to the Watergate Safeway (:::shudder:: , I am so thankful for the new Trader Joe's, esp. since I'm still in the neighborhood. Yes, the produce section often leaves much to be desired, and you can't get fresh fish there anymore, but here are a few things I do love about TJs: 1. Cheap wine, all day, everyday. Plus a big selection of upmarket vino (and some nasty sparklers for good measure). 2. Suprising stock of hard to find ingredients- like the fact that I stumbled across both saffron threads and vanilla paste. 3. The frozen seafood. Oh my god. I could subsist on the seafood medley and blend alone..... yummmm. 4. The fact that they list and identify ALL ingredients on their products. I'm allergic to soy and peanuts. It's nice that all products with these or manufactured with these are marked more clearly than usual. Anyone who's had a bad reaction to oh, Wheat Thins or Tostitos will understand. 5. It's cheap, and good, and again, the seafood blend.
  9. anyone up for a yummy New Year's Day brunch? Gonna need a (strong) blood mary!!
  10. Hello all, first time poster but long time lurker, and very curious about this dinner! Question though- with events such as these, are allowances made for food allergies- and preferences? (And no, I'm not saying no carbs, but I do have allergies and do not eat red meat/pork for specific health reasons.)
