mojoman
Unexpected guest coming over tonight. I need to get a decent dessert. I'm not a big fan of Bread and Chocolate and I'm not sure if they're open until 6 PM or so. Any ideas? Am I stuck with a crappy Safeway cake or pie? Why not get a sponge cake, berries and whipped cream... the perfect spring dessert... sponge cake is sponge cake! Also there is a Marvelous Market near Politics & Prose that might have something. I haven't been to Patisserie Poupon in a couple of years now (note to self: why not?), but I've always enjoyed them. Also, Praline Bakery might be even closer to you. Cheers, Rocks. synaesthesia
I know the Giant in Van Ness has a surprisingly good, moist chocolate cake. Tenleytown Whole Foods has a pretty solid selection of cakes.
mojoman
Thanks all. We're pressed for time so we're going with the shortcake suggestion. I got some ideas for some great bakeries though - thanks. Anyone like Stella's in Rockville?
goodeats
Anyone like Stella's in Rockville?I do, I do! The Grand Marnier cake and the fruit toppings cake having been my favorites. They make a really good cream-styled napoleon (are they called something else?) well too.
